>> All right, now we're going to be talking about
00:00
Private Cloud deployments, the Private Cloud,
00:00
the luxury option of cloud deployments,
00:00
>> the most control,
00:00
>> the most ability to secure the environment,
00:00
but also the highest cost.
00:00
Let's look at the learning objectives.
00:00
Our learning objectives for this lesson are
00:00
the characteristics of Private Cloud,
00:00
talk of the benefits of the private Cloud,
00:00
as well as some of the limitations,
00:00
and why the Private Cloud is not always
00:00
the best solution for every case.
00:00
We see multi-tenancy versus
00:00
single tenant diagram over here.
00:00
In Private Cloud's,
00:00
the customer gets a dedicated piece of
00:00
hardware or infrastructure within
00:00
the Cloud provider's data center.
00:00
Now, it can also look at slightly
00:00
different where a customer may pay
00:00
a Cloud provider to maintain that
00:00
customer's hardware in their data center.
00:00
This allows the customer to
00:00
gain control over the quality of
00:00
hardware that's being used to
00:00
>> run their Cloud deployment.
00:00
>> That was one of the limitations
00:00
we had discussed them Infrastructure as
00:00
a Service in the past module that you really don't get
00:00
much insight into how well the hardware is maintained,
00:00
and what hardware is really being
00:00
used in the infrastructure as a service scenario.
00:00
One of the other important aspects that we
00:00
talked about in terms of the risks of multi-tenancy,
00:00
well, in Private Cloud,
00:00
only your data is running on the application
00:00
or the underlying hardware when it comes to
00:00
storage and processing and physical data
00:00
isolation is definitely one of
00:00
the benefits in terms of security.
00:00
You don't have to worry about
00:00
other people's data bleeding into yours or
00:00
a threat actor is trying to
00:00
get into someone else's data or
00:00
the legal risk that come with multi-tenancy.
00:00
Now, all of these benefits in terms of security and
00:00
attention on the Cloud providers data center,
00:00
that comes with a premium price.
00:00
You may have guessed it, in terms of the business case,
00:00
Private Cloud is really
00:00
appropriate for highly sensitive data.
00:00
We're talking about PII,
00:00
Personally Identifiable Information, health care data,
00:00
maybe military secrets, things like that.
00:00
If it belongs in the Cloud at all,
00:00
are highly sensitive and really need to be
00:00
treated and maintain an isolation
00:00
in a Private Cloud environment.
00:00
Quiz question. A company
00:00
pays a cloud provider to maintain
00:00
the company's hardware in
00:00
the cloud provider's data center.
00:00
What type of cloud model is this?
00:00
Is a Private Cloud, is a public Cloud,
00:00
or is this an example of platform as a service?
00:00
If you said Private Cloud, you are correct.
00:00
Although a customer can pay
00:00
for dedicated hardware that
00:00
belongs to the Cloud provider,
00:00
they can also pay the Cloud provider to maintain
00:00
their hardware in the Cloud provider's data center,
00:00
that is also Private Cloud.
00:00
In summary, we talked about the characteristics of
00:00
Private Cloud deployments,
00:00
dedicated hardware infrastructure,
00:00
isolation, premium control when it comes to security,
00:00
but also high level of costs.
00:00
We talked about the benefits and limitations,
00:00
a lot of control,
00:00
a lot of protection that comes
00:00
>> from dedicated instances,
00:00
>> but one of the limitations is
00:00
that it's also very expensive.
00:00
That goes into the business case,
00:00
that the Private Cloud is really appropriate for
00:00
highly sensitive data that you can't really risk
00:00
of getting commingled or
00:00
held up by legal proceedings that
00:00
might affect multi-tenant
00:00
>> environments and public Clouds.
00:00
>> I'll see you in the next lesson.
