Welcome back to printing Security Intermediate Course. And in this video I'm going to do a recap off what you have bean able to learn in this module, which was about
00:11
page description, languages, a printer, languages. So first thing I, uh, was talking about in this module is how is document being printed? So what is the
00:24
process of printing looking like what is happening inside the PC and inside the printer when the document is printed?
00:32
Then I was talking about different ways to organize printing in a company, So basically you have the server based printing or direct I P printing on. Then there are a couple of ways to organize printing in terms off connecting certain
00:49
PC's or groups of PC's to a certain or
00:53
group off printers.
00:55
Uh, then I was talking about page description languages. Why are there important how they have involved and what kind of threat they can represent for somebody trying to manage security in the company?
01:11
Also, um,
01:14
I have been talking about PCL languages and how they have involved and what kind of security threat they can represent when it comes to printing. And at the end, I did the same thing for postscript language. And I showed you wise, so dangerous and white can be used
01:34
to do various militias things not just to the printer but to the network where the
01:40
printer is located. So basically, what you have seen is that with the postscript, you can essentially enter the
01:51
A device and programming to do quite a lot of things. You can drop some things on its hard drive, and then you can get later. Use them as a some kind of application of softer. Or you can just send the print job, which will start some male sniffing or network sniffing.
02:09
If you do that
02:12
until
02:14
late hours, then it can do these things undetected. Most of these things that can be done with PCL are simply cleared from the printer with the power cycling, so you switch the printer on on, switch the paper printer off,
02:30
but with postscript because it can rightto a hard drive.
02:34
These things might be more difficult to remove and almost impossible to detect,
02:39
so this is one of the things that needs to be taken care and consideration
