>> Hey cybrarians and welcome back to
00:00
the Linux Plus course here at Cybrary,
00:00
I'm your instructor Rob Gills, and in today's lesson,
00:00
we're going to be moving into Module 15,
00:00
where we're going to cover permissions,
00:00
user types, and privilege escalation.
00:00
But before we get into the module I
00:00
just want to say congratulations,
00:00
we've gone all the way through
00:00
domain I and all the way through
00:00
domain II of the coverage in the Linux Plus objectives,
00:00
and that means that we've also
00:00
gotten halfway through the course,
00:00
so congratulations and thanks for sticking with me.
00:00
Now let's move into Module 15.
00:00
Upon completion of today's lesson,
00:00
you are going to be able to
00:00
>> determine the permission and
00:00
>> privileged objectives that we're going to
00:00
find on the Linux Plus exam,
00:00
and we're going to understand
00:00
the plan for the lessons in module
00:00
15 and how they relate to those objectives.
00:00
What will you take away from this module?
00:00
Well, in this module we're going to
00:00
talk about the fundamentals of security,
00:00
starting from the file and directory permissions,
00:00
and we're going to learn how to view and
00:00
modify those permissions and
00:00
also set ownership and look at
00:00
user privileges in general.
00:00
Now, this is going to help us
00:00
determine common permissions issues,
00:00
and also we're going to leverage
00:00
Linux security module implementations
00:00
to help us with that.
00:00
Then we're going to use this information to
00:00
secure systems and ensure that users have
00:00
the appropriate level of access
00:00
and only the appropriate level
00:00
access to system files or resources.
00:00
All it all this is going to make us much more effective
00:00
Linux systems administrators when we
00:00
understand these fundamental security concepts.
00:00
In this module we're going to
00:00
learn file and directory permissions.
00:00
We're going to look at the permission bits.
00:00
We're also going to cover permission utilities,
00:00
and we're going to talk about UMass.
00:00
Then we're going to examine access control lists
00:00
and talk about restrictions with U limits.
00:00
We're also going to look at SELinux configs,
00:00
SELinux policy and SELinux tools.
00:00
Then finally we're going to try on AppArmor,
00:00
view user types, and then
00:00
finally perform privilege escalation.
00:00
But that is the end of this lesson.
00:00
In this lesson, we covered
00:00
the permissions and privilege
00:00
objectives that are covered on
00:00
the exam and the road-map for module
00:00
15 and how it ties into those objectives.
00:00
Thanks so much for being here and I look
00:00
forward to seeing you in the next lesson.
