>> Hey everybody, and welcome back.
00:00
In this lecture,
00:00
we're going to be talking about something called
00:00
Azure Files and how it's different from Azure Blobs.
00:00
This is another storage solution.
00:00
We want to understand what Azure Files does,
00:00
its functionality, and how it's different.
00:00
Then we want to also cover Azure File Sync,
00:00
and really what that is and why you want to
00:00
use that. Pretty interesting stuff.
00:00
Azure File Share is
00:00
a file share that
00:00
actually sits in Azure, and that's hit.
00:00
What I mean by this is that it is
00:00
a file storage solution that is offered by Azure.
00:00
It's completely managed.
00:00
It is a SaaS solution, essentially,
00:00
that you can leverage and plug in to
00:00
your on-premise documents or
00:00
onto your on-premise environment so that
00:00
your documents can be loaded up into this file share.
00:00
You can use this file share
00:00
within Azure or VMs as sit on-premise,
00:00
or maybe your desktops,
00:00
your workstations to sit on premise.
00:00
You can essentially just think of this as
00:00
a file storage solution,
00:00
just like NaaS or something like that,
00:00
that's in the Cloud. It's an Azure.
00:00
You can search the files,
00:00
you can open the files, you can delete them.
00:00
You can upload them whatever you want.
00:00
Granted that you have the permissions to do,
00:00
that's another thing you do have the ability to
00:00
do is sets permissions and security controls on this,
00:00
but it's something that is
00:00
actually quite beneficial because it does
00:00
provide an organization with an extension of
00:00
highly redundant and highly
00:00
available secure storage solution
00:00
for the files.
00:00
A good use case of this is like maybe you have
00:00
a local file share on a server that sit in your office,
00:00
but you want to make sure
00:00
that those files are going to be backed up.
00:00
Theoretically you can use this Azure File Share
00:00
as that service that backs that up so that in
00:00
case a hurricane comes through and wipe out
00:00
that server that's sitting in your office,
00:00
you still have the files stored in
00:00
the Cloud and you can always restore them.
00:00
Like I mentioned earlier very briefly,
00:00
this service is managed by Azure.
00:00
Just like Blobs, this is a SaaS solution.
00:00
You don't have to handle any of the operating system,
00:00
the software, or the infrastructure.
00:00
They go ahead and handle that for you.
00:00
You do have various tiers.
00:00
You have premium,
00:00
which is going to be very performance intensive.
00:00
You have transaction optimized,
00:00
you have hots, and you have cool.
00:00
Let's talk a little bit about Azure File Sync.
00:00
File sync is going to be that piece that's acts as
00:00
the extension or the bridge
00:00
from your on-premise environments to the Cloud.
00:00
It is a piece of software that you're going
00:00
to install on your server and
00:00
agents that's going to connect
00:00
the server or wherever
00:00
you're trying to pull that data from over
00:00
into Azure File Share.
00:00
As part of this functionality
00:00
of this is that the Azure File Sync
00:00
will use the on-premise files server as a local cache.
00:00
Anything that's frequently being searched for,
00:00
or any documents that are constantly being accessed,
00:00
it's going to cache that in the local environment
00:00
even though all the other files
00:00
are actually being hosted in the Cloud.
00:00
Think of it as almost like a CDN-type technology.
00:00
If it's going to be accessed,
00:00
it's going to keep it there so that
00:00
you're not constantly being charged
00:00
on every single request that's being delivered.
00:00
All right, everybody. In this lecture we covered
00:00
the Azure File Share and then File Share Service.
00:00
This is another file storage solution
00:00
that's offered by Azure.
00:00
File share, it can act as an extension for
00:00
your on-premise storage needs
00:00
and you can use it for various projects.
00:00
You can use this for your team.
00:00
There's a lot of use cases in which you can use this for.
00:00
This is more of a hierarchical-type storage service as
00:00
opposed to Azure Blobs,
00:00
which is more flat file.
00:00
But it's still offers a lot of
00:00
the great benefits that you and I use on a
00:00
day-to-day when we leverage something like
00:00
a NaaS solution or another type of storage
00:00
solution that maybe is
00:00
network-optimized within our on-premises infrastructure.
00:00
This can do those same things.
00:00
It can offer those same benefits,
00:00
but it also offers a high availability and redundancy,
00:00
and it's headache-free because
00:00
we don't have to deal with all of
00:00
the software and maintenance of this type of solution.
00:00
All right, everyone that wraps up this lecture,
00:00
I will see you in the next one.
