Always Prepared: The Keys to Building a Skilled Cybersecurity Team
good afternoon and thanks again for coming
to today's Webinar. It's always prepared the keys to building skilled cyber security teams.
Before we get started, I'm just gonna briefly go over a few housekeeping items for you guys.
Today's Webinar is scheduled for exactly 30 minutes
and will include a product walk through of Sai Buri. For teams
to ensure we're able to cover everything on our agenda, all participants will be muted.
You're still able to submit questions and the Q and A box, and we encourage you to do so throughout the Webinar.
We'll address questions and the dedicated Q and A portion at the end of today's program.
The Webinar is being recorded and will share the link with you in the next few days.
Your host today
is Soren Berglund.
Sauron is a senior account executive here, a Tsai Berry key partners with leaders from the Fortune 1000 to small and medium sized businesses all the way up to the enterprise level
to help them find the right solutions
to develop their teams, cybersecurity skills
burn critical industry certifications,
reduce on boarding time, improve her attention and achieve their specific strategic objectives.
Sauron has experience working with organizations and financial services,
government, health care,
retail and many other industries were so excited to explore today's topic as it's an area of focus for many of our cyber A for teams customers.
Without further ado, I'm gonna hand this off to scorn. He's gonna go over today's agenda and then dive right in.
Wow. Well, thank you, Ryan, for that great introduction. I didn't even know I was aware of everything I did for this amount of organizations.
Um welcome, guys and girls. You know, I'm thrilled to have you all here with us and super excited to really drive today's discussion.
Now, I just really want to quickly run through our agenda today. First, you know, I'm gonna be providing a little background on Sai Buri, who we are and really what we dio
next, I'm going to discuss some of the skill gaps as it pertains to the industry as a whole and the importance of developing your teams,
you know, cybersecurity skills.
I'm also gonna break down where we see organizations commonly struggle with learning and development. And finally,
of course, I'm going to go through and walk through CyberRays approach for helping you navigate these obstacles to build
truly a highly skilled cyber security team.
Now library for teams is the leading cybersecurity workforce development platform.
Now what exactly does that mean?
You know, it means we help organizations close to cybersecurity, steel gap and really build a security enabled workforce. Equipped
and prepared to meet modern threats,
we combined engaging courses from experts in the field with virtual labs that really helped enable your team toe work through real world scenarios and get hands on with the latest tools and technologies and drive their cybersecurity skill development.
In fact, we actually have 96% of Fortune 1000 companies already that have employees using Cyber Eri Now, before we dive in, I do wanna open it up for a little bit of an interaction and our first poll question.
Do you currently have a way to ensure your team's knowledge and skills are up to date? Simple Yes or no answer.
We'll give it just a few seconds here.
All right, 50% have voted. We'll give it another couple seconds.
now, these results are not uncommon. 38% of people have said yes and over 60% has have said no.
Um, in fact, when I speak to I t and cybersecurity, you know leaders about 80%.
The answer is typically no.
Right. We find this actually to be one of the root causes for skill gaps with teams, along with not being able to find or attract the right talent.
You know, not having a reliable process for getting new hires up to speed,
not having a plan to help employees understand how they can grow and not being able to keep your best cybersecurity talent.
Um, you know where we see Thio sie skill gaps manifest themselves. We see skill gaps manifest in a number of ways, along with the employee journey, you know, from step one recruiting them, you know, toe on boarding your new employees and later on experiencing career path thing.
You know, we're going to discuss many of these different topics as part of our webinar Siri's.
However, our main objective today and what we're going to focus on is skill development.
As you can see, 65% of cybersecurity professionals don't believe that their organization provides the right level of training to help them keep up with their business and I t risk,
you know, we're gonna go into and dig into why this is the case and how we're going to be able to solve this problem or challenge,
which then leads me into our second poll question for you all.
What is your primary motivation for wanting to develop your team's cybersecurity skills?
All right, there's a little bit more of a lengthy one, so just gonna give it another 15 to 20 seconds.
Alright. Awesome. So the majority of people here, with over 40% said to establish and or implement security best practices.
Now you know more on the benefits and everything you know. Why should you invest in developing your team? Cybersecurity skills
in an evolving threat landscape where attack vectors seem to expand every day.
You know your people or your first line of defense,
you know, which is why it's critical for cyber security teams to continually build in, sharpen their skills, really to stay ahead of emerging technologies and threats. You know, being offensive, not just defensive,
right. It enables your team toe work smarter and faster,
ensuring amore effective use of tools and allowing them to learn and, more importantly, implement security best practices, which we just saw. That answer.
Providing your team with learning opportunities demonstrates your willingness to invest in their career growth, you know, which drives up
better employee engagement and improves retention
At the end of the day. It gives you confidence in your team's ability to really mitigate risks
and bolsters their confidence and their ability to actually perform.
All right. And I think last but not least, the last poll. Our question is number three. Do you currently have a development plan that ties your learning to your strategic objectives?
All right, just a couple more seconds over 60% has replied, coming upon 70
so this is not uncommon at all. Nearly 80% of the attendees here said no,
right. And so this is kind of where most organizations go wrong, right? The benefits of developing your team cybersecurity skills are clear, and we know that most organizations offer some level of training.
Okay, so for some, for many organizations,
development is just a check in the box exercise. There's no strategy or plan designed to drive specific business outcomes.
There's no communicating the purpose of training or specific skills needed.
And it's typically reactive, you know, in response to a recent security instant or perhaps a new vendor.
And they're more focused on or concerned about. You know, the C E use or c pes um, than ensuring the employees are actually retaining and applying their learn skills.
Many organizations don't make time for their team toe. Learn on the job. Actually, we had a recent Skills Gap survey that revealed on Lee. 24% of cybersecurity professionals spend time at work learning new job related skills.
So employees are forced to typically learn outside of work, which may face a new set of distractions and competing priorities that make it difficult to put in the time and focus on learning.
And many organizations I speak with learning opportunities, air not easily or readily accessible.
Um, well, this is likely to change with co vid.
We know many organizations still rely on in person training boot camps, conferences to really skill up their team.
There are some drawbacks, you know, to this approach, one being time, cost and travel. It's not a very scalable solution.
You're you're unlikely to be able to send everyone on your team
right. And finally, we see many organizations who paint training with broad strokes.
Two of the most common approaches that I've seen is being what I like to call the one size fits all approach, you know, providing learning opportunities that are intended for all employees.
These learning opportunities,
you know, often aren't relevant. And don't align with the cyber security teams specific needs. The other is a jack of all trades approach. Now this you may invest in online trading platforms that offer courses on a broad range of I T
and and business topics,
right. They have a little bit of everything, but not enough of what you really need.
And many don't offer the right technical content or the right types of hands on learning opportunities for cybersecurity professionals.
So you're probably wondering what is the right approach? Eso the solution here, and we believe there are four key ways to building a highly skilled, ineffective cyber security team.
First is you're building a development plan that aligns with your strategy.
All right, start by defining your objectives and communicate your specific goals, expectations and timelines.
You know, you can also bake this into your coaching sessions you know, performance.
Um review. Process your weekly or biweekly one on ones, whatever that looks like.
And finally make time for your team toe. Learn on the job. Thio. Position them, you know, for success.
One benefit of our customers here is they realize, and partnering with Library is having a dedicated customer success manager who's going toe work with them to create this plan.
Second, personalized learning. What I mean by that is provide learning opportunities that are tailored to different roles. You know, skill sets and experience levels.
Empower your team toe to develop job related skills by providing and engaging learning experience in their preferred learning style or delivery method. Right Leverage horses and resource is
created by experts in the field who really bring riel world experience and who have actually been in your team's shoes.
you know, offer them hands on learning to give your members the ability to work with relevant tools and technologies and apply the learned concepts in real world situations.
is to monitor your team's development,
ensure that your team is putting in the work and making progress
right. Determine if there any blind spots or trouble areas that you need to account for
Onda, provide coaching and support to those that need it and get feedback on the content.
You know all of this enables you to refine and enhance your development plan
as it relates to your your security and business outcomes.
Um, lastly, Cyber Eri offers customers team dashboards to make the process much easier, which we will go in once we get into the platform.
And finally, it's important to measure and assess your team skills.
You know, from the beginning to the end, you must continually assess your team skills
to inform what they still need to learn and pinpoint opportunities of growth and improvement.
You know, this is what ultimately drives your development plan and strategy and enables you to cross train and broadened coverage across your team
with Sai Buri. You can leverage targeted assessments, both skill and work role
right to gain visibility into your team's strengths, the weaknesses and use virtual labs to test whether they've actually retained their learned skills.
Now, following these key thes key and repeating the cycle will ensure that your cyber security team developed the skills that they need to meet modern day challenges
um, something I cannot harp on enough
is, is truly make sure that your team is always out in front right there, always knowledgeable, and they're always prepared.
Now I'd like to show you a little bit on how Sai Buri for teams can help you implement this approach
now, as I navigate over
to the platform.
So cyber for teams brings a collective knowledge of the cybersecurity industry's top experts in leading organizations.
You know what's most exciting is that our network continues to grow, which really allows us to move quickly and provide the timely content to help our customers stay ahead of the threat landscape that's continuing to change
right. We cover a broad range of topics and skill areas like,
you know, your sock sock analyst pen testing, incident response, digital forensics, cloud securities and many, many more
with career patch that help provide role based learning opportunities to help boost confidence.
You know your virtual labs to help get really hands on experience
certification prep courses to develop such subject matter expertise,
your skill assessments right to measure knowledge and skills,
and finally, certification practice exams to ensure that your team's readiness or ensure your team's readiness to pass any Proctor exams.
Now they're going to be certification related.
This is all on one comprehensive platform right where you can keep in mind. Access this anytime, anywhere, just right from your browser.
And so you and your team will always have the tools and resource is that you need at your fingertips. Now keep in mind, guys, this is all just one piece of the puzzle
as I move over here to the left
is where, you know, as I mentioned before, to build a highly skilled cyber security team, you need a development plan aligned with your security strategy and designed to drive business outcomes right and security outcomes.
Cyber Eri for teams gives you the ability to create and develop that plan for your team or even individual team members utilizing the cyber very career past.
now, Cyberia career Paths are a pre built collection of learning opportunities that are tailored to common work rules, curated by experts in the field and aligned with industry standards such as in this nice frame cybersecurity framework and the D o d 85 70. What we know now that 81 40
for this example, I'm going to go into, say, a Tier one stock analyst, right? We know everyone learns differently, right? There's not just one way to learn,
and we understand that. And that's why our career paths include different content in multiple learning modalities, as you can see the courses with hands on labs,
the exams and assessments. But we also have the ability to customize your teams or an individual's needs. For example, if your organization is,
you know, they might be migrating to the cloud. You can adjust your team's path to ensure that they have a solid foundation and cloud security,
right by adding an item and say, Let's add in the S S C, p or S S c k
course, adding in that
and modifying that by moving down or up, or perhaps removing something you want to remove.
This is also where you can go ahead and say, um,
cross pollinate skill sets right across your team. You know, God forbid it happens. But if you lose someone or a team member, you know that person is prepared to help fill the gap
right? You might have a network engineer, Um, but what if they wanna learn some malware analysis or some digital forensics or pen testing or something else in the security field.
Now you have a cross functional asset
and perhaps subject matter expert
who's able Thio do so. One. It might make that make their job a little more exciting
or to, who knows, they might make a little more money.
it's very easy. You can easily assign this this out to someone you know. Our past, keep in mind, provides structured, consistent and engaging learning experiences
as a cyber area for teams customer, you will be able to have a dedicated customer success and manager who can do all the heavy lifting for you,
right? The work with our in house content engineer to ensure the development plan we create is right for your team.
So if we want to assign this right thio Blake, you can easily create that assignment.
Next is going into the dashboard and one of the most important things possibly for organizations really toe help justify. You know, R A. Y. Once you assigned your path,
you can use your team dashboard to really monitor your team's development,
right? So if if you're For example, if you're a senior later manager in your organization with multiple teams on the platform,
you can filter here between your subgroups
right and review each team's learning and performance. Excuse me separately.
You also have the ability to scroll and look at all the learning hours. Right? Completed assignments. You have leader boards of top labs and even top learners,
but you also have the ability to filter between your time, period right weekly quarterly, whatever bi annually.
Um, you also have the ability to filter by enrollments as well as learning hours.
I do want to show something important. I mentioned a little bit about skill gaps and skill assessments. I do want to give you guys a better explanation of what I mean by that. So
if we were to scroll down here to the assessments and work into the introduction toe, I T and cybersecurity, right,
if I wanted to dig deeper, I can look into specific skill assessments to better understand my team's strengths and weaknesses.
You know, for example, if you have a number of junior folks and want to baseline their skills, you could assign our introduction toe. I t in cyber security assessment.
You can also shift from a macro level view to a micro level of you to see how each member of your team is progressing and uncover where further development is needed.
Right? So, for example, if we were to go in tow, Blakes result his introduction of I t and cybersecurity skill assessment results.
What we can see is this gonna this is gonna generate an automated report which will give you different topics on the left hand side
is going to be the topics
within this assessment
and on the right hand side is how they scored.
you can make adjustments, direct the right learning opportunities and measure the impact.
You know, having this level of insight will also give you the confidence and knowing that your team skill set
and when someone on your team is excel ing and ready to take on more opportunities.
So you know Cyberia for teams gives you the tools the resource is and structure to really create an implement
an effective development plan, one that produces a highly skilled cyber security team,
um, preparing them to defend your organization and really just drive your strategic business and cyber security objectives.
With all of that being said, I do want Thio
go back to our side deck. And so now we've we've kind of discussed skill development,
you know, the benefits, the challenges as well. As you know, our approach for building a highly skilled cyber security team. I would like to open it up for any questions that
you all may have throughout this presentation.
Awesome sort. We did get some pretty good questions that were chatted in over the duration of the webinar first and foremost amazing job. I learned something new every single time I've seen that, and I've seen you walk through the platform at least a dozen times. So great job there.
Our first question, um, is can you tell me a little bit more about the rules of the customer success manager and content curriculum engineer?
every sigh. Briere, e four teams customer has a dedicated customer success manager and content engineer.
So your CSM is going to be your main point of contact throughout our entire partnership.
You know, they also serve as a very strategic resource to help you do a different things, right? Design of development plan define goals and objectives, curate specific learning content.
Track your help track your team skill development,
um, and offer ideas for improvement along the way.
Now, your content engineer
works very closely with your CSM
to help outline your strategic roadmap
from aligning content to your You know, your current work roles to create different certification tracks. Um, you know, rest assured that you're never going to be alone on this. You're gonna have that CSM throughout your entire partnership.
Amazing. So what I'm hearing is you're never going to throw me in the deep end. You're going to teach me how to swim first.
Well, I might, but the CSM will not. All right, moving right along our second question. How can Cyberia ensure that my team's knowledge and skills are completely up to date?
Yes. So this question kind of has a lot of answers. We we tackle this in a number of different number of different ways, so
our skill assessments and practice exams are gonna make it easier for you all to understand your team's strengths and weaknesses,
right? We you're gonna enable
we're gonna help enable you to direct specific learning content. Thio Those who might need it the most.
You're gonna have virtual lab environment which allow your team to,
you know, work with the latest tools and technologies and force them to apply learned concepts
while they're working through real world scenarios.
Um, for those who might need to maintain industry certifications, right, your security plus CSS PCH network plus C c N A.
Right. All of our on demand video courses enable your team to earn ce use and see pes at any time.
Awesome. So, Jenna, I think you're from California. If I remember correctly, she has a question in regards. Teoh is our learning content. D o d 81 40 Compliance.
Great question. Yes. So our content is, um dut 85 70. What we know now is duty 81 42. Specific industry certifications like Ryan had mentioned my partner with a lot of
government and military branches who look at us Thio for the duty 81 40 Compliance
well and keep in mind, we also offer those learning paths that are aligned to the NIST cybersecurity framework as well.
Question number four Sauron. Does Cyberia offer pre and post assessments?
Yes. So Sai Buri offers a lot of different assessments, both on skill and work. Role based.
You know, if you want your team to take an assessment before while taking or after completing, of course, you have the flexibility to assign it out. We're really build it into the path that we helped create for your work roles.
You know, this is gonna help baseline knowledge and measure growth and really, ultimately help the impact of their learning.
You know, we want to ensure that your team retains, learn skills or knows where to focus their efforts. If there is more work that needs to be done
would it also be possible to create my own paths?
Absolutely. So Cyberia career paths are totally customizable. You can tailor and existing path to your specific needs
in addition to have having your CSM helped build customized pathways. Um, with only the content most relevant to your team internally.
Awesome. And we have one quick question soaring, and we gotta start wrapping things up in your walk through. We saw that there was passed and assignments. What's the difference between the two?
Yes, So a path is a curriculum. Typically, it's gonna be your video based forces, your hands on learning experiences
on virtual labs, your certification exams and skill assessments. However, an assignment is a specific learning activity that's part of the overall path.
