Hi.
00:00
You're watching module to Yes, Exile and be center, sir.
00:05
Lesson number two. Installing s Exxon.
00:08
By the end of this video, you learn how to install Yes, exile and how to configure it. Using a text based interface called the D. C Y. Short for direct counsel user interface.
00:21
Let's get started.
00:23
First things first, Make sure to configure yourself to boot from whatever medium you burn. George's ex. I image too.
00:30
In my case, it's the seeding DVD trying.
00:33
Now on the installer screen, you can see two installation methods
00:37
at the bottom left. It says press under to boot.
00:41
This is actually the interactive mode we spoke about in lesson one, and it is the default mode as well.
00:48
At the bottom, right? It says press shift plus oh, toe edit boot options. This is actually the scripted man.
00:56
Now, for the sake of demonstration, we would go with the default option, the interactive installation. So I'll go ahead and press enter,
01:03
or you can just wait for the timer to end.
01:07
Now, the installer is gonna extract installation files,
01:11
after which you will get this welcome message.
01:15
It basically reminds you to check your hardware for compatibility with the SX I, which you should have already done so well. Press enter to proceed
01:25
it, then prompt you to either accept the end user license agreement or refuse and walk away. In fact, you have no choice.
01:33
The end user license agreement is 12 sections long. If I recall it correctly,
01:38
it's crawl through it. If you will otherwise just press F 11 and except at your own peril,
01:45
it will now scan the servers hardware for compatibility. And at the same time, it is searching the storage for a place to spawn its files.
01:55
Once it detects the available storage devices, it will list them here.
01:59
So we've got a single disk, so I'll go ahead and press enter to select it.
02:05
Now, by default, the keyboard layout will be sent to us.
02:09
But be careful here,
02:12
truth a layout so as to match exactly the layout you have under your fingers because the next step, you're gonna type the password
02:20
for the password. There are restrictions that change from one release to the other. In our case, it's CSX. I version six, not seven, So the password length must be 7 to 40 characters long,
02:32
and it must include four character classes,
02:37
lower case uppercase members and special characters.
02:42
Here's an example of the password that meets those requirements.
02:46
So enter your password and hit Enter
02:49
and finally, the last prompt
02:52
press F 11 to start the installation.
02:54
It should take a minute or two depending on your stories type. But I'm gonna speed up the video anyway.
03:01
And we're done.
03:05
Now go ahead and remove whatever medium you used for installation and then hit Enter to reboot.
03:10
I'm gonna again speed up the video and I'll see you after it's completely booted.
03:15
And here we are again.
03:17
We call this interface the direct counsel User interface or D. C. Y. For short.
03:24
It is a text based interface that will let you perform very basic management configuration.
03:30
On this screen alone, we can note a few useful things.
03:35
First you see here, that s X. I already got an I P address. That's because the management interface off years exciting is by default configured for DFC pain. And I happen to have a d S c. P server on my network.
03:50
But it's not a good idea to leave it like this.
03:53
You either reserve an address in the D. F C P server or, better still, you set a static I P address.
04:00
Now you might ask yourself, Why is this important? Well, because some cluster features will in fact require a static management i p.
04:09
I know it's still premature to talk about this now, but take my word for it
04:14
always said a static I p.
04:16
And to do so, you can either press F two on this tissue I screen or you can navigate to the Web interface by following this you Errol.
04:26
Since we are already in the D. C. Y, I'll just do it from here.
04:30
So let's press F, too.
04:32
Enter the password for the route user.
04:35
And before we set a static I p let me walk you through the menu items.
04:41
The configure password lets you well configure a new password if you so wish, but again before doing this, make sure your keyboard layout is correctly configured.
04:51
The configure lock down mode option is great out
04:56
because this host is not yet managed by re center. We'll talk about this later.
05:00
Here's where we configure the management network so hit enter here and the first item, called network adapters, refers to the physical nix on your server.
05:11
If I press enter, you'll see that my server has got a single network interface card. Veen, where refers to a physical Nick as V M Nick.
05:19
Don't worry about the terminology will cover this later.
05:23
You can see that VM Nick zero is selected with a cross on the left.
05:27
This means that this Nick is being used for the management network.
05:30
I can go ahead and check it, but then my host will be isolated in the network. It's not a good idea, Okay, it would become unreachable
05:40
here. I've got only one Nick,
05:42
but if my server had other nicks, they will appear in this list as well. And I would be able to select one or Maur for management as well.
05:51
In fact, a good practices to have two of'em next from the Management network for redundancy.
05:58
Let's hit, escape and leave it on the default.
06:00
Next in the list is the veal and configuration.
06:03
If you want to configure a villain for the management network so as to match the physical network, go ahead.
06:10
Otherwise leave it as it is.
06:13
The next item on the list is where we will set our static I p address. So you can see there are three options
06:19
you can disable. I pee before altogether. If you work in an exclusively i p v six environment, which is, unlike
06:28
you can use a dynamic I P address, which is the default option.
06:32
Or you can set a static i p,
06:34
which we're gonna do right now by pressing the space bar to select the last option.
06:41
And this will copy the address you got from the D S. C. P server and set it as a static I p so you don't have to type it again.
06:48
Pretty cool.
06:49
Now, he just came to go back one level
06:53
and for i p v six, it is the same. Ok, is this the same thing? You can disable it
06:59
if your network is not configured for I p ***. But note that disabling this will cause a reboot,
07:05
so we'll leave it alone.
07:08
You can see that the default option for I P V six is D H cp as well,
07:14
and the last option lets you settee static I p v six Andras.
07:18
So I'll leave everything at the default and hit escape.
07:21
Next is the D. N s configuration.
07:25
You can see that it is configured to get the d n a server address using D S C. P as well. So I'm going to select static
07:31
by pressing the space bar.
07:34
So leave the d N. A server addresses it is, And I'm going to give my server host name. Let's name it s X I 01
07:43
In the custom D'Anna saw fixes you can set a custom Deanna Suffolk's to force years ex I. D. N s resolution to this domain name. Otherwise, it will automatically get it from the deity piece. Other
07:56
now ***. Why? To apply the changes we did
08:01
restarted the management network. If you want to renew the d f C P lease for the management interface or for troubleshooting networking issues, otherwise leave it alone.
08:13
Now let's go and test our management network
08:16
First center, and it will give you the possibility to pink up to three addresses in the network.
08:22
In addition to resolving the f q d n off your ears X, I host to see if everything is properly configured D. N s wise.
08:31
Now the first addresses the default gateway.
08:35
The second actress is our d n a servant.
08:37
You can go ahead and type of third address if you are sure that there is a machine listening on that I p address
08:43
and the last field is your F. Cody in.
08:46
So let's percenter and wait, and it should show. Okay, next to all entries,
08:54
There you go.
08:54
Network Restore options lets you restore the management network to the system defaults. This is particularly useful for troubleshooting that working issues, especially when your host experiences connectivity issues while being managed by a distributed virtual switch.
09:13
Let's not delve into, uh, these technicalities now, but remember this option should really be called Reset Management. Metro.
09:22
The Configure keyboard lets you change your keyboard layer pretty obvious.
09:28
We will continue with the rest of the items in the next video.
