Welcome to the lesson on installing and map on Windows. In this lesson, I'm gonna walk you through finding, downloading and installing and map on the Windows operating system.
00:12
We won't get into scanning too much just yet, except for a single test scan. But by the end of this lesson, you should have a fully functioning Windows and map scanning station.
00:24
So many of you are probably thinking you could skip through these lessons
00:29
and you might be right.
00:31
But I am going to throw a couple of tips and tricks in about special configuration options and insulation tips that could
00:39
easily be overlooked yet very helpful for covering tracks during the penetration test.
00:45
Let's get started.
00:47
Here are the learning objectives For this lesson.
00:51
I'm gonna show you where to get unmapped
00:53
the best way to download it.
00:55
Then we'll do a lab on installing it
00:59
in the lab. I'm gonna walk you through installing and map, but first I want to run through a couple quick points.
01:04
This might sound really obvious, but the best place to get N map for Windows is simply by navigating to the end map website at N map dot or GE
01:14
There are many other sites that offer various versions of N map, but why not just get it from the source, right?
01:19
MD five Show one and shot 2 56 Hashes are available there to verify and validate the authenticity and integrity of downloaded files.
01:32
Downloading and map directly can best be performed by going straight to and map dot or GE wack download.
01:40
If you want to read extremely valuable details about how N map runs on Windows, including its history on Windows, a comparison between NP cap and Wimpy cap
01:49
registry hacks and setting environment variables, go to the Earl I've included in this slide.
01:59
Here are a couple more quick points
02:01
on the end map download page. You can either download the latest stable release self installer, or you can download the latest stable command line ZIP file
02:12
with the latest stable release self installer.
02:15
You'll get one file that includes everything necessary to install and run and map
02:20
with a command line only version. You simply get in map without a couple other things that will optimize its performance.
02:28
There's only one reason I bring this up
02:30
if you're performing a penetration test and have compromised a machine that happens to have a packet capture library and a version of the Microsoft Visual c++ re distributable packages installed.
02:40
You should definitely try to use the command line on Lee version of en map
02:46
as I'll show you in the removal lesson. You'll be able to do your work, then clear your tracks using a built in and rarely used Windows Command line tool called Cipher.
02:58
Here are the things will cover in this lab
03:00
By the end of it, your Windows computer will be ready to do everything I do throughout the rest of this course.
03:07
Let's do it.
03:08
Okay, welcome to the lab on installing and map in Zen map on Windows.
03:13
Open up your favorite browser
03:15
in the address bar now,
03:17
but I been and map dot or GE to go to the official and map website.
03:27
Now, once you're there at the top of the page in the header, you'll see a download link. Click it to go to the download page,
03:35
scroll down to the section that says Microsoft Windows Binaries.
03:38
That section has some really good information in it. If you get stuck,
03:44
you'll see the end map set up Dottie XY Link next to the latest stable release self installer, and you'll also see the command line ZIP file that I mentioned earlier.
03:53
Simply click on the self installer version to begin your download.
04:00
Your browser might be different, so just walk through the process of downloading the file than finding it,
04:05
opening the folder it's in and double clicking it to begin the install.
04:17
Once that starts, just agreed to the licensing agreement. If you want to read it, you can.
04:24
Now you'll just choose the components that you want to install for this lab. We'll just leave him all selected and just click next.
04:32
Then I'll ask you where you want to install. It will choose next.
04:43
After that's done,
04:44
the license agreement for NP cap will pop up.
04:46
Feel free to read through that if you'd like,
04:49
then when you're ready,
04:51
click. I agree.
04:56
The insulation options for NP cap will be displayed, including some options about the coexistence or replacement of wind. Peek out.
05:03
Just leave these as the default
05:05
and click install.
05:10
This could take a little bit of time in might temporarily disconnect your network connection, but after it's finished
05:18
here in a little bit.
05:29
Like I said, it takes some time.
05:31
Click next,
05:34
then finish.
05:38
Then click next again and you'll have the option for
05:42
creating the shortcuts for Zen map in a Start Menu folder and on the desktop.
05:46
Just leave those is the default options and click next.
05:49
Now you should have an icon for Zen Map the gooey friend map on your desktop. Once you're ready,
05:57
we'll verify that the Zen map shortcuts on your desktop
06:01
and now well, uh, open a command prompt.
06:12
Now let's just start with a really simple and map test scan to make sure things are working. Type
06:17
and map
06:18
space. Scan me dot and mt dot org's to run a scan of and maps tests Can server
06:26
Wait a couple seconds.
06:29
And if you see similar results to mine, you know that and map is working.
06:38
Yep, so and maps working and now you can simply type exit to get out
06:46
and we're finished.
06:53
Thanks for walking through this lab with me on installing and map and Zen map on windows.
06:59
The purpose of this lesson was defined. Download and install and map on the Windows operating system.
07:05
If you're using windows, your machine should be ready to go.
07:10
