Files created in Microsoft Office and later versions are compatible with OpenOffice. You can do additional readings on how to use OpenOffice as required. Exercise 2 - Install and Configure an E-mail Client

E-mail client software installed on a desktop or mobile device is a common application for users who need access to all their e-mail messages from various service providers - both internal and external.

In this exercise, you will configure Mozilla Thunderbird properties to collect e-mail messages from a third party email service. There is no messaging server installed in this lab. Therefore, you will get errors when setting up the SMTP, IMAP or POP3 settings on the e-mail client.

Learning Outcomes

Exercise 3 - Create a Database with OpenOffice Base

OpenOffice Base is Apache’s personal relational database management application. Base is an object-oriented database that lets you work within the program by manipulating objects. For each object that you work with, Base has defined properties. Understanding the object’s properties and the relationships between other Base’s object helps in making the most out of this database management application. The objects that you work with Base are tables, queries, forms, and reports.

In this exercise, you will create a sample database by creating a table and form.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this exercise, you will be able to:

  • Install Java Runtime Environment
  • Create a table
  • Create a form in design view
