Overview

Introduction

Welcome to the Configure Network-based Anti-Malware Practice Lab. In this module, you will be provided with the instructions and devices needed to develop your hands-on skills.

Learning Outcomes

In this module, you will complete the following exercises:

  • Exercise 1. Prepare System Requirements for Kaspersky Security Center
  • Exercise 2. Install and Configure Kaspersky Security Center
  • Exercise 3. Deploy Kaspersky Anti-Malware to Clients

After completing this lab, you will be able to:

  • Install SQL Server Express
  • Enable file and print sharing on PLABWIN10
  • Install Kaspersky Security Center
  • Initialize the Kaspersky Security Admin Center
  • Create and deploy the Kaspersky network agent
  • Monitor installation of Kaspersky network agent
  • Download Kaspersky Endpoint Security
  • Deploy Kaspersky Endpoint Security package
  • Verify Kaspersky Endpoint Security on Windows 10

Exam Objectives

The following exam objective is covered in this lab:

  • 6.2 Explain methods to secure devices and best practices.

Lab Duration

It will take approximately 1 hour to complete this lab.

Exercise 1 - Prepare System Requirements for Kaspersky Security Center

Network-based anti-malware applications install on a firewall appliance or dedicated server hardware. The firewall or server situated at the edge of the network stops viruses, worms, and other perceived malware, then prevents them from reaching devices in the corporate network. The firewall or server relies on updated database virus signatures to ensure that it can cope with the evolving landscape of online threats. Client workstations use an agent or software to collect and update its virus signatures from the server. In addition, client devices use the lightweight version of the firewall/server anti-virus to fend off malware that may have gone undetected into the client computer by way of unauthorized portable storage devices or connecting to the Internet from public wireless access points.

This exercise will demonstrate how to install and configure Kaspersky Security Center on a Windows Server 2019 computer. This lab will be unable to illustrate the capabilities to block malware, as Kaspersky Security Center requires a license key to unlock the features of the network-based anti-malware application.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this exercise, you will be able to:

  • Install SQL Server Express
  • Enable file and print sharing on PLABWIN10

Exercise 2 - Install and Configure Kaspersky Security Center

Kaspersky Security Center requires a database engine from a relational database management software (RDBMS) like SQL Server or MySQL. After a successful setup of SQL Server Express in the previous exercise, you will now install Kaspersky Security Center on Windows Server 2019. This exercise will also illustrate post-installation tasks to prepare the server to download updates from the anti-malware vendor and rollout the network agent to client workstations.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this exercise, you will be able to:

  • Install Kaspersky Security Center
  • Initialize the Kaspersky Security Admin Center
  • Create and deploy the Kaspersky network agent
  • Monitor installation of Kaspersky network agent

Exercise 3 - Deploy Kaspersky Anti-Malware to Clients

In some cases, the Kaspersky Security Center 11 may not include the endpoint anti-malware called Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Windows for workstations. This exercise will demonstrate how to package the Kaspersky Endpoint Security and perform a push deployment to a Windows 10 client.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this exercise, you will be able to:

  • Download Kaspersky Endpoint Security
  • Deploy Kaspersky Endpoint Security package
  • Verify Kaspersky Endpoint Security on Windows 10
