>> Hello, Cybrarians.
00:00
>> Welcome back to
00:00
>> the Linux plus course here at Cybrary.
00:00
I'm your instructor Rob Gills, and in today's lesson,
00:00
we're going to move into Module 11,
00:00
where we're going to cover Server Roles.
00:00
Upon completion of this lesson,
00:00
you're going to be able to understand
00:00
the roadmap for Module 11,
00:00
and we're going to see the server role objectives
00:00
that are covered on the Linux plus exam and talk
00:00
a little bit about how those objectives
00:00
map to the content in this module.
00:00
What will you take away from this module?
00:00
Well, we're going to begin to move
00:00
beyond the basics of using
00:00
Linux and start to discuss how Linux can be used.
00:00
We're going to get an understanding of
00:00
the various services Linux can provide in other words,
00:00
and we're going to cover how the server roles
00:00
are used to deliver these services.
00:00
We're going to learn about
00:00
the purpose of the server roles,
00:00
as well as how to install and locate files that are
00:00
related to the server roles
00:00
and the services they provide.
00:00
This information is going to help you better
00:00
understand how Linux can serve the needs,
00:00
whether they be for a hobbyist,
00:00
a small business, or an enterprise environment.
00:00
In this module, we're going to talk
00:00
about timekeeping using NTP.
00:00
We're going to see how a host to host communication
00:00
is done using SSH.
00:00
We're going to learn about web servers and
00:00
web services using Apache and NGINX.
00:00
We're going to determine how trust is established,
00:00
which is using certificate authorities.
00:00
Then we're going to move on and talk
00:00
about name servers for
00:00
host name resolution and how we can set up
00:00
IP address assignment through DHCP.
00:00
We're going to talk about file servers and
00:00
server roles that are used for authentication,
00:00
and we're going to have an overview of proxy servers.
00:00
We're also going to discuss logging servers.
00:00
We're going to touch on containers and VPN.
00:00
We're going to talk about monitoring
00:00
servers and database servers.
00:00
Then to wrap things up we're
00:00
going to learn about print servers,
00:00
we'll cover sending mail with mail servers.
00:00
We're going to cover load balancing
00:00
and we're also going to touch on clustering.
00:00
But with that, in this lesson,
00:00
we covered the plan for Module 11
00:00
and we talked about the server role objectives
00:00
that are on the Linux plus exam and how
00:00
they're going to map to the lessons in this module.
00:00
Thanks so much for being here and I look
00:00
forward to seeing you in our next lesson.
