>> Here we are. Domain 2 Cloud data security.
00:00
I'm pretty excited about this domain.
00:00
I think someone has said that data is
00:00
the oil of the 21st century.
00:00
Well, the one thing
00:00
about real oil is it stays in the ground,
00:00
data in the Cloud, not so much.
00:00
It's being stored, it's being processed,
00:00
it's going through APIs,
00:00
it's going through applications.
00:00
It's maybe leaving the network going in, out.
00:00
But how do we secure it?
00:00
That's what we're going to talk about here in Domain 2.
00:00
The learning objectives for this lesson are to
00:00
really provide a good overview of domain 2,
00:00
talk about the importance
00:00
>> of these concepts in domain 2,
00:00
>> and then also relate domain 2 to domain 1.
00:00
How do all of
00:00
those models and architectural concepts and those
00:00
inherit responsibility of security ideas relate to what
00:00
we're learning about Cloud data security in domain 2.
00:00
In a nutshell, the domain 2 topics are really
00:00
split into four categories.
00:00
The first is data classification.
00:00
How do we really identify what our valuable data is,
00:00
what protections it needs and ensure that within
00:00
our organization it's obvious what data is what?
00:00
Now, how do we know which data is most important,
00:00
what data needs the most protection
00:00
>> and we talked about,
00:00
>> figure out critical assets in the last module,
00:00
but now we're focusing on the data.
00:00
The next aspect is the data life-cycle.
00:00
I've talked about data being stored,
00:00
processed, created, shared, sent around.
00:00
Well, there really is
00:00
a model for the data life-cycle within
00:00
the cloud and we're going to talk
00:00
about that life-cycle and how data
00:00
can be secured at every step along the way.
00:00
Then we're going to talk about Cloud data storage.
00:00
One of the big advantages of
00:00
the Cloud is scalable storage.
00:00
Now there are a lot of caveats
00:00
to what storage model is best
00:00
for the business case and how
00:00
data can be securely stored in the Cloud.
00:00
We're going to focus on that
00:00
>> in the data storage lessons.
00:00
>> Then ultimately Cloud data security strategies.
00:00
What are the techniques that
00:00
get implemented in the Cloud?
00:00
We've talked about some of them already.
00:00
Encryption is a big one,
00:00
but we're going to talk about some
00:00
of the more granular strategies
00:00
used to basically control,
00:00
monitor data going in and out and ensure that it
00:00
only can be decrypted by the appropriate people.
00:00
We're going to talk about all of these strategies and
00:00
how all these concepts in
00:00
concert allow us to have
00:00
secure data in Cloud environments.
00:00
Quiz question, what is the first step
00:00
to effectively protect Cloud data?
00:00
Is it classification, creation or encryption?
00:00
Little bit of a tricky question here.
00:00
Of course, you need to create data,
00:00
but my question is really to
00:00
effectively protect Cloud data,
00:00
classification would be the correct answer.
00:00
We need to know what that data is
00:00
before we can effectively
00:00
determine the appropriate levels of protection.
00:00
In summary, I want to get you
00:00
excited about the talks we're
00:00
going to cover here in domain 2,
00:00
what the importance of those topics is and
00:00
then also how domain 1 set us up for success.
00:00
We learned about all those different
00:00
models architectures, excellent, amazing
00:00
>> characteristics of Cloud environments.
00:00
>> Now we're going to understand how to protect
00:00
the data that travels around the Cloud.
00:00
See you in the next lesson.
