The Managing Windows Update Infrastructure module provides you with the instruction and server hardware to develop your hands on skills in the defined topics. This module includes the following exercises:
- Prepare System Requirements for Adding Servers to SCVMM
- Configure Windows Update Services
- Managing Infrastructure Updates
Estimated time to complete this lab: 90 minutes.
Exercise 1 - Add Hyper-V Servers to Virtual Machine Manager
In this exercise, you will configure the firewall rules to allow Virtual Machine Manager to manage the Hyper-V hosts in the lab. After which, you will set up an SCRunAsAccount user that will be used for managing the Hyper-V hosts in the Virtual Machine Manager console.
Please note that you may have seen these tasks in some previous modules. You need to perform these again because the Hyper-V servers are not managed by default in Virtual Machine Manager as per lab setup.
Exercise 2 - Configure Windows Update Services
In this exercise, you will install and configure Windows Server Update Services. Depending on the system settings that you choose when initializing WSUS and the speed of the Internet connection, it will take a few minutes before the necessary updates are downloaded on the server.
Exercise 3 - Managing Infrastructure Updates
After installing Windows Update service and successfully synchronizing the server with Microsoft Update, you will integrate WSUS to work with Virtual Machine Manager.
