The Design BI Reporting Solution Architecture module provides you with the instructions and devices to develop hands on skills in the following topics:
- Creating drillthrough reports in SSRS
- Adding a subreport to a report and specify parameters to pass through a sub report in SSRS
- Rendering SSRS reports on Web pages in a specified format
- Creating a Reporting Services subscription to deliver a report to a SharePoint library
- Creating a Data Alert in Data Alert Designer
Exercise 1 - Create Drillthrough Reports in SSRS
A drillthrough report is a report that opens when user clicks a link within another report. In this exercise, you will create a product category report listing the available product categories from DimProductCategory table. When you click a product category in the report, a drillthrough report opens displaying the available English products and Spanish products in that category.
Exercise 2 - Adding a Subreport
Subreport is a report that displays inside the body of a main report. Conceptually, a subreport in a report is similar to a frame in a Web page. A subreport can be repeated within data regions, using a parameter to filter data in each instance of the subreport.
In this exercise, you will create a subreport in SSRS by specifying parameters to pass through the subreport.
Exercise 3 - Rendering a Report on a Web Page
Reporting Services is an open reporting platform, which allows you to render a report on a Web page in a specified format.
You can integrate reporting into custom applications using the following:
- Report Server Web Service
- ReportViewer Controls for Visual Studio
- URL Access
In this exercise, you will create an SSRS report using a stored procedure and render it on a web page in a specified format.
Exercise 4 - Create a Data Alert in Data Alert Designer
An alert is a collection of metadata. It can have the report data included within it. You can create data alerts for SharePoint users or administrators. You can create, edit and manage data alerts in Alert Designer.
In this exercise, you will create a data alert in data alert designer. As a prerequisite, you will first start the SQL Server Agent job in SQL Configuration Manager and then start the SQL Server Reporting Services Service in SharePoint 2013 Central Administration. You will create a new SSRS Service application and manage the service applications. You will create a new top-level site and a report using SQL Server Data Tools. You will deploy the report on the SharePoint Server.
Exercise 5 - Create a Reporting Services Subscription to Deliver a Report to a SharePoint Library
A Reporting Services subscription is a configuration. You can specify the report format and different parameter values. The Reporting Services subscription delivers the report based on the parameter values. You can create multiple subscriptions for a single report.
