Hey, everyone, welcome back to the course. So in this video, we're gonna go over a brief introduction to viruses so we'll talk about what viruses actually are. Also talk about the different stages in the virus life cycle, and we also take a high level overview with some indications of a virus attack.
So what is a virus? Well, basically, it's just a self replicating program that produces copies of itself by attaching to other programs. One key thing to note here is that a virus needs some kind of host, and it also needs some kind of interaction to infect.
So it's not like a worm that will self propagate across your network
and different endpoints. Ah, virus needs some kind of a user interaction, usually to cause it to actually be downloaded on the device and effect.
So this might be done from a user downloading ah file. That's maybe militias or downloading some kind of email attachment and opening it. And the goal with a virus is basically either usually either data alteration or some kind of corruption of that data.
So what are the stages of the virus life cycle? What we've got the design stage. This is actually where the virus code itself is developed and constructed. We've got the replication stage where the virus replicates for a period of time within the target system and then spreads itself.
We have the launch phase, and this is where the gets face basically gets activated when the user actually does some kind of
action. So, for example, opening that file from their email detection. This is where it's actually detected by, say, your anti virus or anti malware or by your I T team. That's noticed something's going on with your end point.
And then once we've identified and eradicated the virus, we then incorporate that signature or the behaviors of that virus into the database of that anti malware antivirus solution. And from there,
the user installs anti virus updates and make sure that there's no more virus threats from that particular virus on their system.
So what are some behaviors on our devices that might indicate a possible virus infection? It could be that your computer is slower when programs are actually starting up.
Could be that you're getting antivirus alerts, so it's saying, Hey, you've got an infection by this,
and you know. Well, I probably have an affection, right. If your antivirus solutions telling you you do you more than likely dio running processes or slower? A lot of information on the computer computers being eaten up. Maybe even the operating system won't load so your computer won't actually boot up and allow you thio use it.
Computer might freeze up or throw a lot of their messages. Could also be your browser freezes up a lot.
Um, and again, some of these things can be The fact is, you gotta slow Internet connection or your wife is going out, right? It could be that you've got a older computer that doesn't have a lot of horsepower, so it's not able to process things faster. So
don't think that just because you have these symptoms on your computer, it must be a virus. It just means that these are indicators. So make sure you perform steps to see if you may have a virus, but also understand that it may not be ah, virus on there. You may also be missing files and folders. Again,
you might have just copying or cut and pasted it into a new location. And for gotten about it.
But if you're legitimately missing files and folders, it might be an indicator that there's a virus on your machine.
So just a quick, quick question for you. This stages where anti virus software developers assimilate defenses against the viruses that replication Inc or elimination.
Alright, If you Guessed Inc you are correct again, that's where they're determining those signatures of the virus and incorporating into the anti virus or anti malware solutions.
All right, so in this video, we just talked about what a virus is again. Understand that the main difference you wanna know for the CH exam between virus and worm is the fact that the warmest self replicating we also talked about the different virus lifestyle, life cycle stages as well as we talked about some indications of that you may have a virus virus infection.
Keeping in mind, though, that
many of those can be caused by other issues as well. Like you're losing your your Internet connection or you got a bad connection could also be that you've got
low memory on your device. So again, just go through the steps of identifying. Is there an issue with my system, or is it possibly a virus going on with my system?
