>> Welcome back. In this lesson we're going to be talking
00:01
about EC2 instance connect.
00:01
This is going to be a short one,
00:01
but I think you're going to find this pretty handy
00:01
so strap in, let's go and do this.
00:01
The learning objectives are going to
00:01
be to demonstrate what
00:01
EC2 instance connect is and how it works,
00:01
so I'm going to actually hop over to my screen.
00:01
You guys can watch me do this
00:01
as another walk-through video.
00:01
Let's go ahead and do that. Here we are.
00:01
We're in the AWS management console here.
00:01
I'm going to go and navigate to EC2 again.
00:01
I left my machine running on purpose.
00:01
I want to quickly note this rule quick.
00:01
When you have a free tier count,
00:01
you're going to have so many compute hours you can run
00:01
an EC2 instance before it begins to
00:01
charge the credit card on file,
00:01
make sure you terminate
00:01
your instances because it will ding your credit card.
00:01
I have gotten charges for like $2, $5,
00:01
$10 because I forgot,
00:01
so make sure you're doing that.
00:01
If you have multiple AWS accounts like me,
00:01
sometimes it gets tricky to remember which account
00:01
you left that EC2 running
00:01
in so that becomes a pain in the butt.
00:01
Don't do that. Don't be like me.
00:01
Terminate your instances when you're done.
00:01
This is your work account is
00:01
probably a little bit different.
00:01
You got to make sure you follow your local policies,
00:01
your company policies on that.
00:01
You don't know them, go ahead and
00:01
check with the managers on that,
00:01
check with IT engineering.
00:01
Hopefully, you're not going to have access
00:01
to that, at least not right away.
00:01
Usually you have some seniors or tech leads
00:01
to manage that and they're on top of it.
00:01
As a security engineer that works in the Cloud,
00:01
you definitely shouldn't have access to that.
00:01
That's just danger. But anyways,
00:01
let's go ahead and get into this.
00:01
Here's my T2 micro that I set up
00:01
earlier and I'm going to go ahead and open it up here.
00:01
Here's lots of juicy information here and if I
00:01
click this button here, connect.
00:01
This is that EC2 instance connect
00:01
that I was referring to.
00:01
This is what this lesson is really about here.
00:01
This provides us with an opportunity to jump in to
00:01
the EC2 instance without
00:01
having to go through a lot of technical setup.
00:01
If you don't have your CLI setup,
00:01
you don't have your PowerShell setup for this.
00:01
You haven't installed
00:01
all the dependencies and everything.
00:01
This is one way you can access it,
00:01
and you can manage your EC2 instance real quick.
00:01
I'm going to go ahead and hit "Connect" here.
00:01
This thing is pretty cool.
00:01
It's a Cloud based terminal and so here we are.
00:01
We're in the machine. I can do things.
00:01
I can do like, let's see, who am I?
00:01
EC2 user. There we go.
00:01
If I want to do print working directory, there we go.
00:01
If I want to do ls, ls-a.
00:01
You can see here I can do stuff in
00:01
this Linux instance that I have here on the Cloud.
00:01
I'm running this in my browser.
00:01
I didn't have to download any packages.
00:01
I didn't have to download any software at all.
00:01
It just runs right there.
00:01
It's a pretty cool stuff.
00:01
Super-duper simple.
00:01
I just wanted to show you what this is because,
00:01
I'm probably going to get a question
00:01
on this in the exam,
00:01
and you want to make sure you're familiar
00:01
with the beauty of this tool.
00:01
Let's go ahead and dive back into our slides here,
00:01
and we'll wrap this lesson up.
00:01
To summarize real quick,
00:01
we learned what's the EC2 instance connect software is,
00:01
and we discovered how to use it super easy.
00:01
It's already been four minutes in this video,
00:01
and we're already done, so you
00:01
should to take a look around, check it out.
00:01
If you have your own AWS account
00:01
and you set up an EC2 instance,
00:01
go ahead and play with it,
00:01
make sure you terminate your instance.
00:01
I'm going to go and do that here when I'm done,
00:01
teaching this module because
00:01
I want to make sure I don't get charged.
00:01
But be sure that
00:01
you're playing around with these tools because
00:01
it's cool stuff and it's going
00:01
to help you commit the information to memory.
00:01
So when you sit down for your exam,
00:01
you know what you're talking about.
00:01
I'll see you in the next lesson.
