Introduction
The Identify Windows Operating System Editions module provides you with the instruction and Server hardware to develop your hands on skills in the defined topics. This module includes the following exercises:
- Using Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant
Exercise 1 - Using Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant
In this exercise, you will learn how to use PC Upgrade Assistant which is a free utility that you can utilize prior to upgrading your system to a newer version of Windows.
The scenario in this lab is to find out system incompatibility issues if you upgrade a Windows 7 workstation to Windows 8. Please note that the Windows 7 device in this lab is a 32-bit version. Upgrading a Windows 32-bit to a newer 64 bit version while retaining all system settings is not supported. This will call for complete reinstall of Windows 8.x. If you would like to retain the user settings from an old Windows 7 32-bit computer, you can use Windows Easy Transfer or User State Migration Tool to save the user settings and import them to a new computer.
