Overview

Introduction

The Configuring Active Directory Roles and Services module provides you with the instruction and server hardware to develop your hands on skills in the defined topics. This module includes the following exercises:

  • Configure Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services
  • Install and Configure Active Directory Rights Management
  • Install and Configure Read-Only Domain Controllers

Exercise 1 - Configure Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services

Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services provides an alternative repository of network objects---such as users and groups. The database created by AD LDS can be used by applications to provide authentication to users if AD Domain Services is not a viable solution.

In this exercise you will perform the tasks required to install AD LDS.

Exercise 2 - Install and Configure Active Directory Rights Management Services

Active Directory Rights Management Services (AD RMS) provides the infrastructure to secure confidential information from being passed on to unauthorized users.

Exercise 3 - Install and Configure Read-Only Domain Controller (RODC)

For large organizations with multiple sites, you can deploy Read-Only Domain Controllers to ensure security of Active Directory data. An RODC is entirely dependent on the writeable domain controllers located in another location; therefore changes on the domain controller propagate in one direction to the RODC server.

In this exercise you will perform the tasks required to install RODC.
