Welcome back to the county. A project close P. K 0004 This is your instructor, Birdy Lamb.
00:07
Now we're gonna be looking into the different organizational structures and the relationships between the project manager,
00:15
the functional manager and the staff that is used to develop and produce yourself off the project.
00:23
So the first thing that we are going to be learning is how to appreciate each of these structures the benefits and challenges of the functional organization,
00:33
the Matrix organization and the Project Ties Organization.
00:37
Each of these has advantages, and there are settings in where there
00:43
produce better results based on the type off project That or the Jackal, was the project that you are pursuit. Let's look in the functional one first
00:54
in this one. There is no specific project manager
00:59
tasks and projects are through the department's. You take a staff from different departments and the focal managers are part of the project team.
01:10
So the reporting of each of the staff is done directly to the off team chair. Although in this case, a fortune manager
01:19
work, sadly, is silo. In other words, there's no collaboration because each team member response to the manager, and they don't have to share O r or actually be directed by other managers
01:36
with these. Also, there's the disadvantage and as well as an advantage is that the resources human resource is in this case are part time.
01:44
This means that you don't have to invest on someone that may be idle for half of the time, so that's part of their duties,
01:52
like off hours or of the latter part of the day. Or, you know, the day that could be working on that specific project as a team, but later on bait. Go back to their respective units and do our normal tests.
02:06
So listen into the next one. That Matrix is The Matrix is a bit of a hybrid between the functional, which is the one we just saw, and project ties, which we'll see later on.
02:19
So it's like a progression from functional matrix project ties
02:24
in this case, also, members
02:27
report to a project manager that in the functional one didn't insist. Now we we see the the function of the role of the project manager, but they could also report us well to their supervisors. Now the Matrix want there are two types off matrix or based organization.
02:46
The 1st 1 is the week matrix.
02:49
See what to the functional life
02:51
where you have part time staff but very state project manager, although the project manager will have limited authority, limited resource control and no control over the budget.
03:05
Also, this project manager East a part time. And as you can see, the project manager is just coordinating the different tasks. But at the end, each staff member has to report to their functional managers how they respond.
03:21
The next one is this balanced matrix.
03:24
You know you have a full time project manager,
03:28
as you can see here at the bottom left corner of the diarrhea, there's low to moderate authority
03:34
in decision making, also low to moderate resource control, and the budget is mixed. There may be some saying some control, some ability to, uh, to influence the budget.
03:50
The Third Matrix is a strong matrix, and now we are leaning towers. The product ties environment. As you can see, you have the functional manager role, but as well you have a manager off project managers Now you have different project managers that before
04:06
we didn't have and now these are full time individuals,
04:11
which may have moderate to hire 30. Once the staff resource has been assigned to a project, they have a 30 off the over this staff resource
04:20
as well. They have full control off the budget.
04:25
Finally, we go to a project ized environment. This is the least common, I would say, because it requires more sophisticated environment, a larger enterprising where Project Project Management Office exists as a rolling itself in where there are dedicated team members working
04:45
specifically four projects
04:46
and they have dedicated staff.
04:49
In this case, the project manager has full authority over resource is over budget and any other decision that they have to make.
05:00
So if we were to compare them and as I mentioned before,
05:03
if we look with our far left functional, this is the amount of authority and autonomy and budget control, the far left means little to no
05:15
all the way to the right. In we're project ties,
05:18
type of organization functions are you have more autonomy or full autonomy and authority and control over your budget.
05:30
So to wrap it up, what have we learned? We have learned how to appreciate the different organizational structures.
05:36
Howie Functional organizational structure operates
05:41
the attributes and different of levels off the matrix, organizational structure
05:46
and characteristics as well off the Project Ties organization.
05:51
So let's see you in a few more minutes on our next presentation.
