>> Hello Cybrarians and welcome back
00:00
to the Linux+ course here at Cybrary.
00:00
I'm your instructor Rob Goelz,
00:00
and in today's lesson we're going to
00:00
be diving into Module 1,
00:00
our first lesson in discussing the Linux boot process.
00:00
Upon completion of today's lesson,
00:00
you'll be able to understand
00:00
the boot process objectives that are going
00:00
to be covered on the exam,
00:00
and we're also going to talk about the steps that
00:00
are involved in the Linux boot process.
00:00
What will you take away from this module?
00:00
Well, this module will help you understand
00:00
boot failures or boot issues you
00:00
may run into on a Linux system.
00:00
You're going to need to know this information
00:00
for the Linux+ exam of course.
00:00
But it's also very helpful if you're
00:00
working with physical Linux systems.
00:00
The boot process, and files
00:00
commands involved in Linux boot
00:00
are all things we're going to touch on,
00:00
and we're going to use that information to troubleshoot
00:00
boot or modify and update boot files.
00:00
Please take this to heart. Linux boot process is
00:00
a frequent topic in
00:00
Linux systems administrator interview,
00:00
so if you ever happen to be
00:00
interviewing for a Linux sys admin position,
00:00
you'll probably find yourself talking about boot issues.
00:00
Definitely pay attention if that's
00:00
you, and we'll move forward.
00:00
As we go throughout this module,
00:00
here are some of the topics we're going to cover,
00:00
and these generally align with
00:00
the exam blueprint objectives.
00:00
In this lesson we're going to
00:00
cover the Linux boot process,
00:00
then we're going to dive into
00:00
the second stage of the boot process,
00:00
and we're going to get into some of
00:00
the files that are involved,
00:00
booting the EFI files,
00:00
we're going to talk about different
00:00
boot options in Linux.
00:00
We're going to learn about the third stage
00:00
of the boot process.
00:00
We're going to look into the bootloader files
00:00
and play with some of
00:00
the commands that are used to boot,
00:00
and then finally, we'll touch upon what happens
00:00
when you have a kernel panic on a Linux system.
00:00
Let's take a brief look at the Linux boot process,
00:00
a high-level overview, if
00:00
you will, and as we move forward,
00:00
we'll get a little bit more in depth into each level of
00:00
these different processes and
00:00
steps in the Linux boot process.
00:00
The first step is the bootstrap phase.
00:00
The second step here is the bootloader phase,
00:00
and we can see like a new GRUB bootloader menu
00:00
over on the right-hand side.
00:00
The third step is the kernel phase,
00:00
and we can see some kernel messages being
00:00
output to the console over there on the right-hand side.
00:00
Then the final step is the initialization phase.
00:00
Step 4 is the initialization phase
00:00
in the Linux boot process.
00:00
Well, we've come to the end of today's lesson,
00:00
and in this lesson,
00:00
we covered the material that's going to be covered in
00:00
this module and also align that to you,
00:00
the boot concepts that are
00:00
covered on the Linux plus exam,
00:00
and we got high-level overview of Linux boot process.
00:00
But with that being said, thank
00:00
you so much for being here,
00:00
and I look forward to seeing you in the next lesson.
