>> Hey everybody, and welcome back.
00:00
In this lecture we're going to be talking about
00:00
something called Azure Data Box,
00:00
which is actually a really cool service.
00:00
We're going to learn about what Azure Data Box is,
00:00
and then we want to cover
00:00
the different types of data boxes that are out there.
00:00
There's multiple solutions and there are use cases.
00:00
Let's say that you're an organization that is looking
00:00
to adopt the Cloud and you have a lot of data,
00:00
and it doesn't seem feasible for you
00:00
>> to migrate all that
00:00
>> data from your on-premise data centers into
00:00
the Cloud because it will just cost too
00:00
much or just wouldn't be possible.
00:00
You have your reasons.
00:00
You want to make sure that it gets over
00:00
to Azure because he love it.
00:00
You got a ton of enterprise incentives to go ahead
00:00
and move into that Cloud, which is great.
00:00
How do you get your data in there?
00:00
Well, data box is your answer.
00:00
Data box is a massive hard drive
00:00
or series of hard drives that you can leverage.
00:00
You can actually request
00:00
the Microsoft ship one of these data boxes over to you,
00:00
you migrate all your data into it,
00:00
and then you ship the data box back over
00:00
to Microsoft and they take care of it from there,
00:00
then go ahead and upload your data to
00:00
wherever they need to upload it to.
00:00
You go ahead and specify that to them and they'll do it.
00:00
Next thing, all of your data is magically in the Cloud.
00:00
It would be a lot cheaper and it would be a lot more fast
00:00
and efficient than if you were to
00:00
try to do this on your own,
00:00
over landlines, or over the Internet.
00:00
You have a couple of different options for data box.
00:00
You have the data box itself,
00:00
which is the standard 100 terabyte rugged device.
00:00
Now, I have a rugged device.
00:00
I actually have a LaCie drive and it is
00:00
one terabytes and it's pretty cool.
00:00
It's orange, if I drop it,
00:00
has some shock absorbent rubber around it so that's
00:00
the spinning disk doesn't get damaged
00:00
or it reduces the chances of it getting damaged.
00:00
That's essentially a rugged device.
00:00
That is basically what this is.
00:00
This is something that is tamper proof,
00:00
so you can't break into it.
00:00
If it drops, it will
00:00
ensure that your data is going to be secured,
00:00
and they offer this benefit across
00:00
all their various storage box or data box offerings.
00:00
Like I said, you have data box which
00:00
starts at 100 terabytes,
00:00
which is their smallest.
00:00
Then they have data box disk,
00:00
which is going to be somewhere between 8-40 terabytes,
00:00
and an SSD depending on what you need.
00:00
You have some options there.
00:00
We also have Data Box Heavy,
00:00
which is one petabytes rugged carts of storage.
00:00
That's a lot of storage offering there.
00:00
Then you can also leverage the Data Box Gateway,
00:00
which is a virtual appliance.
00:00
It does offer a way to
00:00
streamline this to the Cloud if you need to,
00:00
but that is another offering.
00:00
Here is illustration that I pulled down from
00:00
Microsoft's website that does highlight
00:00
the various data box offerings that are open to you.
00:00
Let's go ahead and talk about it.
00:00
We have our data here.
00:00
We have some traffic data,
00:00
we have security data,
00:00
maybe some manufacturing data,
00:00
and our data warehouse.
00:00
We have all this data,
00:00
lots and lots of data that sits on-premise,
00:00
and we want to get this over into Azure.
00:00
We have some options here.
00:00
We can use the online routes
00:00
and use the Data Box Gateway,
00:00
which is that virtual appliance,
00:00
or we can use an Azure Stack Edge,
00:00
which is another way of doing,
00:00
it's like their Azure network.
00:00
If we want the Azure Data Box Gateway,
00:00
we can do this virtually and stick it up into the Cloud.
00:00
Now, we also have the offering of going offline,
00:00
which are the ways that we were talking about.
00:00
This is where the Azure Data Box,
00:00
sweet spot really is.
00:00
We can use the data box disk,
00:00
which is that drive.
00:00
We can use the data box itself,
00:00
which is the a 100 terabytes,
00:00
or we can use a Data Box Heavy,
00:00
which is that one petabytes carts of
00:00
storage space that we can migrate all of our data into.
00:00
They put it on a truck and they
00:00
ship it over to the Azure data center,
00:00
and next thing it's on the Cloud and we can access it.
00:00
These are the various ways
00:00
that you can transport your data.
00:00
It's important to know,
00:00
I know it seems really simple,
00:00
but this is something that is
00:00
very important to understand.
00:00
For the exam, you're going to
00:00
probably get one or two questions on
00:00
this because they're going to want you
00:00
to understand the concepts.
00:00
Here you're going to want to memorize what's
00:00
the various data box services
00:00
are and their source limitations,
00:00
because what they might give you is
00:00
the scenario where they say, "Hey,
00:00
your organization has 900 terabytes
00:00
of data that needs to be migrated over into the Cloud,
00:00
which of the following
00:00
data box services would you choose?
00:00
Would you use Data Box Gateway?
00:00
Would you use Data Box Disk,
00:00
Data Box, or Data Box Heavy."
00:00
Something like that.
00:00
This might be an example question that you might see.
00:00
In this case, obviously you'd want to
00:00
use Data Box Heavy because it offers
00:00
up to one petabytes worth of storage,
00:00
so you would want to use that and
00:00
then stick it on a truck and move it over into Azure.
00:00
Just to give you an idea
00:00
of some of the questions that you may see,
00:00
there'll be more scenario
00:00
focused and they're going to be testing your ability
00:00
to identify the service
00:00
and why you would want
00:00
to choose that over another service,
00:00
which might sound very similar.
00:00
There again, you want to make sure that you
00:00
understand the concepts of
00:00
the storage service and
00:00
why it's better over another service.
00:00
Enough rambling there.
00:00
To summarize this video,
00:00
we talked about what Azure Data Box does.
00:00
Essentially it migrates large quantities
00:00
of data in an offline fashion,
00:00
but you can also do it
00:00
online using their virtual appliance.
00:00
It is secure and is built for transportation using
00:00
the rugged structure that is built-in to.
00:00
You know that your data is going to be sent over to
00:00
the Azure data center securely and efficiently.
00:00
Azure does offer
00:00
some various data box solutions which does alter
00:00
some pricing depending on where you are
00:00
and the time in which you are looking to purchase this.
00:00
I don't want to include that
00:00
in here because those things do change.
00:00
But if you are looking to maybe implement this,
00:00
you would want to go ahead and take a look at
00:00
their pricing model to
00:00
see how this impacts you where you are.
00:00
All right, everyone, that wraps up
00:00
this lecture and this module.
00:00
In the next module, we're actually going to be
00:00
jumping into virtual machines,
00:00
which I'm very excited to talk to you about.
00:00
If you have any questions about Azure Storage Services,
00:00
feel free to reach out to me.
00:00
If not, I'll see you in the next module.
