Exercise 1 - Install and Configure Microsoft Anti-Malware Programs
Windows desktop operating systems like Windows Vista and later include a free anti-malware application called Windows Defender. This software intended mainly for home and small office users can help protect your computer from viruses that can affect your PC’s system performance and stability.
Like other anti-virus applications, it’s only as good if you take precautionary measures like keeping the signatures updated and avoiding web sites that are potential carriers of malware.
Exercise 2 - Understand the Windows Registry
Windows stores information about system and user settings in a hierarchical database called a registry. Information about Windows like installed applications, user settings, system hardware and its device drivers are saved in the registry. When modifications are made on the hardware and software settings of a computer, the system will record and refer to those properties in the registry.
Access to the registry is limited to members of the Administrators group in a local computer or in a Windows domain. There are some settings that cannot be done in the programs built-in to Windows. As such, system administrators and tech support personnel will use registry editor to make the necessary changes to the system.
