Introduction

The Understanding Performance of Named Queries in Data Source View module provides you with the instructions and devices to develop hands on skills in the following topics:

  • Creating a named query
  • Analysing performance of a named query

Exercise 1 - Creating a Named Query

Named queries enable you to create custom table by selecting columns from one or more tables from single or multiple data sources. It provides a virtual view on your data source and enables you to make changes to the data you are mining without changing the original data.

In this exercise, you will learn how to create named query in Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services. You will first create a data source view in an Analysis Services Multidimensional and Data Mining project. You will then create a named query in the newly created data source view and deploy the project. Finally, you will define an Analysis Services cube and deploy the cube.
