The Understand Storage module provides you with the instruction and Server hardware to develop your hands on skills in the defined topics. This module includes the following exercises:

Exercise 1 - Understand File System Types
Windows supports two types of file systems: File Allocation Table (FAT) and New Technology File System (NTFS). Generally, for disks smaller than 400 MB it is recommended to use FAT. For disks bigger than 400 MB, NTFS is the recommended file system—because this file system can handle bigger disks and is more secure.
In this exercise, you will learn the different file system types of Windows. You will create simple volumes and learn about the features of the supported file systems.
Exercise 2 - Understand Disk Storage Types
Windows supports different storage types as a way to provide scalability to large disk volumes that are widely available in the market.
To provide data redundancy for your files, you can make use of mirrored volumes where an exact replica of a disk is created on another disk of the same or bigger capacity.
You can extend disk storage by adding a newly installed disk, this is called spanned volume.
Exercise 3 - Understand Storage Device Types
Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) is a standard for linking data storage devices and transferring data by carrying SCSI commands over an IP network.
In this exercise, you will install a basic iSCSI server on PLABDM01 and then configure iSCSI initiator on PLABDC01 device.
Exercise 4 - Setting up OneDrive
Microsoft OneDrive provides a free cloud-based storage for user files which can be accessed from any device that’s connected to the Internet.
Users with accounts in Hotmail.com or Outlook.com are allocated at least free 15 GB storage (as of this writing). Your storage account can be upgraded to higher capacity on a paid subscription basis.
