Exercise 1 - Install Remote Server Administration Tool
Microsoft Management Console or MMC is a shared user interface where more than one Windows administrative tool can be placed in a single window to do away with the need of opening multiple tools separately. MMC provides a unified user interface when working with Windows tools,
In this exercise, you will download an update that will install Remote Server Administration Tool (RSAT) for Windows 8.1. RSAT is set of utilities that can be used for administering Windows Servers in a domain.
Please note that this exercise is a repetition of an earlier lab activity where you installed RSAT. You must install again RSAT from which a simplified version of the MMC called a taskpad will be created. You will learn about configuring a taskpad in a later exercise.
Exercise 2 - Create Custom MMC for Remote Management
After installing RSAT in the earlier exercise, you will create an MMC taskpad and distribute it to a trusted user in a Windows Active Directory domain.
A taskpad is a simplified version of a Windows administrative tool where certain features are displayed like a hyperlink to create a user or group in an Active Directory domain. The taskpad makes it easier for newbie Windows junior administrator to work with admin tools with very limited administrative rights.
The taskpad can be further customized by the administrator to meet the requirements of a user or group who has been delegated administrative rights to the Windows domain.
Exercise 3 - Understand Windows PowerShell
Windows PowerShell is powerful command based program for managing every aspect of a Windows system. It was first introduced in Windows XP version and has been a regular feature of every Windows release.
This new generation of command interpreter is very easy to learn because it contains a rich help system available online. The help system can be invoked from within PowerShell environment and connects to Microsoft TechNet website.
