The Managing Virtual Machines Manager Library module provides you with the instruction and server hardware to develop your hands on skills in the defined topics. This module includes the following exercises:
- Configuring Virtual Machine Manager Library
- Administering VM Profiles and Templates
Estimated time to complete this lab: 90 minutes.
Exercise 1 - Configuring Virtual Machine Manager Library
System Center Virtual Machine Manager library is a compilation of resources that can be utilized to create and manage virtual machines. The library hosts components like virtual hard disks, virtual machine templates, hardware settings stored in VMM database.
A server running SCVMM is automatically designated as the library server and use a folder called MSSCVMMLibrary as a repository for Application Framework and virtual hard disks which can be used as storage for VM templates.
Exercise 2 - Administering VM Profiles and Templates
A virtual machine profile contains specifications that go into creating a virtual machine template or a new virtual machine, A VM profile streamlines the process of creating templates.
A virtual machine template assists you in creating virtual machines with common hardware specification and operating system settings. This is useful for creating multiple virtual machines with similar hardware and operating system settings.
In this exercise, you will clone a new virtual machine and remove unique system settings on a Windows VM using its native deployment tools like System Preparation Tool or sysprep.exe. Then cloned virtual machine will be used as the basis for creating a VM template.
