Overview

Introduction

The Deploy SSIS Solutions module provides you with the instructions and devices to develop hands on skills in the following topics:

  • Creating Integration Services Catalog
  • Creating project parameters
  • Adding configurations to SSIS package
  • Deploying SSIS projects with project deployment model
  • Setting up environment variable package configuration in SSIS
  • Executing SSIS package using SQL Server agent

Exercise 1 - Creating Integration Services Catalog

In this exercise, you will create an Integration Services catalog (SSIS DB). To deploy SSIS projects to an Integration Services server, the server must contain the SSISDB Catalog.

Exercise 2 - Creating an SSIS Package with Parameters and Values

In this exercise, you will create an SSIS package and deploy it to the Integration Services server using the project deployment model. The Integration Services server allows you to manage SSIS packages, run packages and configure runtime values for packages using environments.

Exercise 3 - Adding a Configuration to SSIS Package

Integration Services enables you to use two deployment models, namely, the project deployment model and the package deployment model. Project deployment model allows you to deploy an entire project containing projects and parameters to the SSISDB catalog on an instance of SQL Server. Package deployment model allows you to deploy packages from the development environment to the production server. In package deployment model, you use configurations to assign values to package properties at run time. In project deployment model, you use project parameters to assign values to package properties at run time. In this exercise, you will add a configuration to assign values to the SSIS package property.

Exercise 4 - Deploying SSIS Projects with Project Deployment Model

In this exercise, you will deploy projects with project deployment model. Projects acts as containers for the developed packages in SSIS.

Exercise 5 - Using Package Configurations in SSIS

Configurations are property/value pairs that you add to a completed package. You can supply values to the package properties using a configuration. For example, you can update the value of a package variable from the configuration. You can use different package configurations to build dynamic SSIS packages. There are five different package configuration types:

  • XML configuration
  • Environment variable
  • Registry entry
  • Parent package variable
  • SQL server table

In this exercise, you will implement environment variable package configuration type.

Exercise 6 - Executing SSIS Package Using SQL Server Agent

In this exercise, you will execute the SSIS package using SQL server agent.
