Introduction
The Cisco IOS Troubleshooting Tools module provides you with the instructions and Cisco hardware to develop your hands-on skills in using the troubleshooting tools that the Cisco IOS provides. This module includes exercises that will cover the following topics:
- Using simple ping and extended ping
- Using traceroute
Exercise 1 - Ping and Extended Ping
One of the most basic network troubleshooting tools is the echo request using the ICMP protocol. This is more commonly known as a ping. Ping is often the first tool that is used when troubleshooting network connectivity issues.
It may seem like a very simple tool that doesn’t warrant a whole exercise devoted to it. However, it has many options, some of which will be covered here.
In this exercise, you will examine the ping command in its simplest form as well as with some extended features.
Exercise 2 - Traceroute
Traceroute is essentially a series of pings with time to live settings such that the sender gets an echo response from every router that it traverses along the path to its destination.
In this exercise, you will examine and use traceroute and observe how it functions
