Overview

Introduction

The Analyzing Performance Consequences of MDX and DMX Queries module provides you with the instructions and devices to develop hands on skills in the following topics:

  • Analyzing performance consequences while using MDX
  • Analyzing performance consequences while using DMX

Exercise 1 - Analyzing Performance Consequences of MDX

You can use Multidimensional Expressions (MDX) to query multidimensional objects such as cubes to return cube's data. In this exercise, you will analyze the performance while using an MDX query to query an OLAP cube. An OLAP cube provides quick response to complex queries by storing data in an optimized way by using dimensions and measures.

Exercise 2 - Analyzing Performance Consequences of DMX

The Data Mining Extensions (DMX) queries helps you to query Data Mining Models in Analysis Services that are either relational or cube data. The data mining model enables you to gain new insights to your data in Analysis Services. In this exercise, you will add a data mining model to the Multidimensional Analysis Services project that you created in Exercise 1. You will then query the data mining model using a DMX query and analyze the performance of the query.
