Should I get CCENT before CCNA? Or should I attempt to get CCNA right off the bat? Take a CCNA now beacuse CCENT just optional it's my opinion CCENT is just the first cisco exam you take that is the ICND1(100-101) when you take this exam you have the CCENT certification, when you pass ICND2(200-101) exam you are CCNA and you can also become a CCNA certified when you pass only this exam 200-120. CCENT is just half of the CCNA exam. It's a way for you to get half of the CCNA out of the way without having to try and knock it all out at once. If you'd rather take the exam in 2 smaller chunks then get your CCENT first and take the second exam later to get your CCNA. If you would rather take 1 big exam just get your CCNA. CCENT is also useful if you are more focused on security for example rather than on routing and switching. If this is the case you should take the CCENT exam and then CCNA Security without having to pass the entire CCNA routing and switching exam. Do it once in a single shot CCNA attempting icnd1 and icnd2 is better can i give ccie exam without giving ccna exam No, you can't. yes you can No. Direct you can take CCNA. ccent just got some basics in it i suggest you to go for ccna directly do ccna other wise you dont do the second exam +1 and it only one exam instead of two. yes! get the CCENT first! why? you have more time to study and more time in the exam day + when you wanna re-validate your CCNA certificate you can just sign up for CCNA 2 which you will save money in that time.some people call the CCNA series ICND 1 and ICND 2 which CCNA 1 is actually CCENT. the main different between the fees to sign up directly for CCNA or sign up for CCENT first is just $50 but when you wanna re-validate your CCNA certificate you can just pay 1 fee for CCNA 2 which means you actually will save $150.(base on 2014-15 fees) Yes! get the CCENT first! Take them back to back if you want, a couple of days apart. The single exam is A LOT of information and takes a pretty long time. Splitting it up is only $5 more expensive and if you drop one, you only have to retake one exam. It's a safer bet, negates the single point of failure and seems like the route a good network engineer would take. Same goal, same destination, more redundancy. I'm a fan. CCENT I would go for first, so you can get a job off the bat with it, and then practice spanning tree, EIGRP, etc. while you study for your CCNA. CCENT is just a beefed up Network+ cert.
