In this CyberScore’s lab, you will use a Kali Linux Virtual Machine to navigate through the directories of a Linux system, which means that this is possible also in other Linux Distributions. You will find an important file and generate its hash, which is a one-way function that outputs a hexadecimal string that represents the file. You will send this output to a file for future reference. This string does not change, no matter how many times you run the command, therefore if there is any change in the file, the output will change, meaning that the file has been modified, and you need to investigate if the modification was legitimate or if it was due to an attack.

You will also use Microsoft Windows CLI to generate the hash of a complete directory and send the output to a file, and then verify if any changes have been made, whether from a legitimate or illegitimate modification.
