Go to the Kali homepage and follow the instructions there, they advise heavily against using 3rd party repos for updates. http://docs.kali.org/general-use/kali-linux-sources-list-repositories Check your sources.list and make sure it has the repos from the link above. If not just copy and paste them in. And as stated above get rid of any non-official repos in there. Hi, the answer to your problem is in the error. It looks like the status file stored in /var/lib/dpkg is either corrupt or has been deleted. It may even have the wrong permissions. To fix it it cd to /var/lib/dpkg and check on its status. If it is there either move it somewhere else or just to a backup -- mv status status.bak Then do -- 'touch status' to create a new file. That should fix your problem. :)
