Hey everyone. I just passed the CompTIA Security+ exam this morning, and I can't thank Cybrary enough for the training. I thought I would give a little bit back to the community, and release my notes that I took throughout all the videos. I hope someone gets some use out of them! Also, if you have time, check out my other work published by Cybrary here: https://www.cybrary.it/0p3n/an-overview-of-cyberterrorism/ I know I can't really enforce this, but please don't redistribute this as your own. I'd appreciate it! Links to my notes: Pastebin: http://pastebin.com/f0eMUip0 Dropbox PDF: https://www.dropbox.com/s/b158a537qp5il2t/Security%2B%20Notes.pdf?dl=0 Thank you Alan for the notes. I just downloaded and printed them out and I am now going through them and highlighting. I really appreciate it. Thanks for sharing the Security+ notes. Looking at them while watching the course. Congratulations on your Sec+ pass @aer9480! I'll check out your work on Op3n shortly as it sounds an interesting topic. :) Thanks for sharing the Security+ notes. Thanks for sharing your notes, it will be useful. Congratulations @aer9480!!! --Stark WHAT IS CYBER SECURITY? Cyber security, also referred to as information technology security, focuses on protecting computers, networks, programs and data from unintended or unauthorized access, change or destruction. WHY IS CYBER SECURITY IMPORTANT? Governments, military, corporations, financial institutions, hospitals and other businesses collect, process and store a great deal of confidential information on computers and transmit that data across networks to other computers. With the growing volume and sophistication of cyber attacks, ongoing attention is required to protect sensitive business and personal information, as well as safeguard national security. During a Senate hearing in March 2013, the nation's top intelligence officials warned that cyber attacks and digital spying are the top threat to national security, eclipsing terrorism. Thank you so much i just started to really try and dig into studying for Security plus and well this will help a ton! tnx lot Thanks a lot for the notes man, I'm using them as a supplement while going through the course myself and they've proven quite helpful so far. :) Nice notes. Thanks. Thank you for sharing, Alan. I just got the notes so I'll add them to mine and continue with the course. I'll be taking the exam soon as well. Congrats on the pass! Thank you so much! Great job! thanks for the notes man and congrats.., Nice one mate, Am struggling on remembering encryption, ports nos and cryptography, any advice I'm obviously not the guy who posted this, but I thought I would throw in my two cents to see if it may help a bit. Set up servers/VMs with the services/ports in the course/test. Not only will this help you more easily correlate where they go, it will give you invaluable practice with configuring these services and learning how they purr, which is essential in keeping them secure, and breaking into them. With crypto you'll honestly just need to study hard and memorize asymmetric/symmetric, RC4 Stream (you only need to name one type of stream cipher), as well as a couple of different encryption standards. (AES, DES) If you don't already know a programming language, I'd suggest learning one. Programmatic thinkers tend to be able to more easily memorize concepts and procedures since a lot of languages have rather strict standards on what will fly. Plus, you've gotta memorize a bunch of built in and additional functions in things like Python, Ruby, Perl, etc. Thank you for sharing. I am looking to take my exam soon, possibly in a couple months. Can you give any advice or tips, etc. to what I should focus on more and such. Like focus on ports more, networking, encryption, etc. I know the bulleted points they give on the CompTia website, but reading is nothing like going through the actual exam, so any info is definitely helpful and appreciated. Congrats and thank you. Congratulations on passing and thank you for the notes. Congrats! I am studying for the same certification, thank you so much for sharing. These will help a lot with studying and understanding the material along with the other documents I am using. I feel I have a really good chance at passing. These forums have been awesome for helping! I have a question and I hope it is not too much to ask. I do not use Dropbox, so i cannot retrieve the Dropbox related notes. Is there anyone way to maybe use Google drive or something for the other notes? I am sorry to ask and if it is too much trouble that is okay. I have been using Professor Messer and Exam Compass for studying. I also have a book that I need to read more, lol. Has anyone tried The CertMaster from Comptia? Do you think it is worth it? Hi @DeviantLexicon, The DropBox link is a public link so you don't need an account. But, DropBox is free to sign-up for as well. Congrats on passing and thanks for the notes!
