Another day, another exciting new addition to our growing team! We’re welcoming long-time Cybrary instructor, Matt Mullins, to the Cybrary Threat Intelligence Group (CTIG) team as a Senior Security Researcher, where he’ll focus on adversary emulations of various threat actor groups and developing additional red team content. Matt joins new Cybrary team members and cybersecurity influencers, David Maynor and Chloé Messdaghi, to help develop content and training that is relevant, timely, and communicates real-world skills.

Working within CTIG, Matt will demonstrate what attackers look like in the wild, identify TTPs, and then ultimately expand the tools for blue teams to defend against them. He recently spoke more in-depth about his “Adventures in Red Teaming” during a Cybrary podcast. As a “jack of all trades,” Matt looks forward to keeping analysts and cyber professionals up-to-date on the latest happenings in the cybersphere. Over the long term, Matt is excited to build a portfolio of these vulnerabilities as a push-off point for security researchers.

After initially learning about Cybrary through a security bootcamp years ago and continuing to use the content as a study reference throughout his career, Matt was thrilled to have the opportunity to help us advance our mission to bridge the persistent cybersecurity skills gap through the education and training of both red and blue teams. Matt is looking forward to contributing and giving back to the cybersecurity community and fostering growth because it’s often so difficult for organizations to find highly qualified individuals for various teams in an ever-changing industry and threat landscape. Outside of red teaming, other items of interest for Matt include incident response, social engineering, and threat intelligence as well as IoT, hardware, and physical security. As Matt routinely mentions, many of these types of attacks often get overlooked in favor of vulnerabilities that are not relevant in 2022.

Before joining our team on a full-time basis, Matt was a part-time instructor and technical SME for us, where he worked closely with MITRE and also formed courses around exploits, red teaming, and adversarial emulation, such as FIN7. He also was a “sparring partner” for blue teams to hone their defensive skills. Outside of Cybrary, Matt was a Senior Manager for an adversarial emulation team at Cigna as well as a Technical Manager at Capital One, which were both focused on red team engagement.

With a Master's degree in Information Assurance and many certifications ranging from frameworks, management, and hands-on hacking, we can’t wait to see what he has up his sleeves for CTIG as they get it off the ground and running. Please join us in giving Matt a warm welcome to the Cybrary team!
