IrDA uses infrared (IR) signals to send data for IrDA 1.1. The average distance is 3 to 6 meters. Some IR technologies have a maximum distance of 1.5 miles. Because IR signals are used to transmit data, distance capability for long-range IR varies with weather conditions (such as humidity). IR is a line-of-sight technology operable on a clear path between the transmitter and receiver.
