Bluetooth is a very useful and attracting technology and The Ubertooth One is an open source and widely available Bluetooth testing and research tool. Every Bluetooth device has a 48-bit unique Bluetooth device address, as it's mac address, which consists of 3 sections. Non-significant address part (NSP), upper address part (UAP) and lower address part (LAP). In order to connect to a target, an attacker needs only the UAP and LAP. LAP sniffing is easy. Every Bluetooth packet contains the LAP in cleartext. In Ubertooth one project, one can sniff both, LAP and UAP easily.
More advanced Bluetooth sniffing has been implemented in the form of a plugin for Kismet, the venerable 802.11 monitoring tool. In order to compile the Kismet-Ubertooth plugin, you will need a Kismet source tree matching the installed version. Ubertooth One is the world's first affordable Bluetooth monitoring and development platform that can be used for monitoring Bluetooth devices. Hardware and software, both of its components are open sources. It has 2.4 Ghz band antenna suitable for Bluetooth experimentation. The Ubertooth One is built around the ARM Cortex-M3 microcontroller and is able to capture and demodulate signals in the 2.4GHz ISM band with a narrow bandwidth of the only 1MHz.
