Where do I start?

It's the most common question we're asked on Cybrary and one that's hard to answer because starting your training often depends on where you're looking to end up. Whether you're entry-level, mid-level, or an advanced practitioner late in your career, navigating the cyber security industry can be difficult. That's why at Cybrary, we're trying our best to provide all the resources we can to make your training journey easier to maneuver.

What's in this roadmap?

This roadmap covers a few entry, mid, and advanced level careers. More specifically, how you progress from one to the next, statistics on each, and the necessary background to help you get hired. The PDF is interactive, so there are so clickable links which will provide resources and further information to get you started. We encourage you to share the guide with friends and use it as a baseline of reference. Please keep in mind, it does not cover the entire spectrum of IT/ Security careers but gives basic guidance. Additional information can be found on the Cybrary jobs page.

Highlighted careers:

  • Cyber Security Specialist
  • Cyber Crime Analyst
  • Incident Responder
  • IT Auditor

Where does this information come from?

This information is based on a project by the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE), CompTIA, and Burning Glass Technologies. The statistics provided are taken from an aggregation of US job listings in 2016. Although a US-centered study, it can be useful in helping anyone determine a typical path of career progression although the salary and job opening statistics may not match your area.
