We are currently living in an era that is highly impacted by technology. From our day to day living to all essential tasks, we are immensely surrounded by technology. Going with the tide, if there is a good investment in today’s time then it surely is in technology. Today, IT certifications are an investment for the future, as it not only enhances one’s understanding of the subject but also adds to the person’s proactive capabilities. Employers too are looking out for people who possess extra knowledge, and something just more than the degree.
A recent survey conducted by Certification Magazine showcased the importance of certifications and how these can benefit in finding good opportunities. The survey revealed that more than 90% of the individuals who were surveyed, possessed at least one certification in the respective field they were looking for a job.
CompTIA Security+
CompTIA is a global vendor neutral IT certification provider that deals with certifications as popular as the A+, Network+, and Security+. Many of these, if not all, are entry-level certifications that attract students and IT practitioners to enhance their skillset and learn more about the IT field.
CompTIA has two security courses, these are CompTIA Security+ course and CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner, also known as the CASP certification. Security+ is the entry-level certification that covers the basics- such as system infrastructure (including hosts, applications and data) along with network security issues like basic cryptography, identity management, access control, and the role of assessments and audits.
Importance of Security+
CompTIA’s Security+ course helps enable learners to gain the required knowledge and skills to install and configure systems that can help secure applications, networks, and devices. These also help to perform threat analysis while responding to the appropriate and required mitigation techniques. It also helps to acquire knowledge of participating in risk mitigation activities; operating with an awareness of applicable policies, laws, and effective regulations.
Certificates Can Help Increase Earning Power
According to stats from the above stated survey, people interviewed and surveyed on the importance of additional online IT certifications, and security plus training revealed that almost 50% of those surveyed made more than $70,000 per annum, while 18% of those individuals made between $70,000-$100,000 in a year. Another 28% were making between $100,000 to $200,000 per annum, while around 66% reported that they received an annual rise when they cleared and achieved a certification. This thus means that more certifications not only lead to an increase in income within the IT field but also better perks and appraisals. The survey also showed that people who had gained certifications were less likely to experience pay decreases or layoffs in time of recession.
Progressing ahead
A general degree in IT is however enough to get recruited as an entry-level position, but to keep progressing one might need to secure more certificates. These certificates add on to one’s learning and determination, and proactiveness in the organization. Gaining a certificate can help one stand out of the crowd and be recognized. The CompTIA Security+ similarly showcases one’s ability to outstand from others. You can begin your learning of CompTIA Security+ course and gain an edge in your career.
