Brain Virus: The First PC Virus - CybraryHello my Geeky Hackers,Today, I'm going to tell you about the first PC virus ever written that comes from my own country, Pakistan. Hopefully you guys will love the story (*..*) . Who, When, Why and How?Brain Virus is considered to be the first virus written for PC's. It was written in 1986 by two brothers: Basit Farooq Alvi and Amjad Farooq Alvi from Lahore, Pakistan. Brain infected PC's running Disk Operating System with File Allocation Table. Why was it written, you might ask? Both brothers owned a computer shop in the city and, one day, they saw some people illegally distributing a medical software they wrote. They decided to strike back with their own weapon. They wrote a program intended to stop illegal distribution of there medical software by making the floppy disk drives with the pirated copy of the software very slow. This program was distributed via floppy disks. Due to a flaw in the design of the program it became capable of manipulating itself to other PC's and became a more deadly piece of code (a virus). Let's talk about how it workedAt that time, PC's used DOS (Disk Operating System) and floppies. Brain infected/replaced the original boot sector of the floppy disks with it's own code. Yet, instead of loading the intended program at the boot sector, it loaded the virus onto the computer. The original boot sector was moved to another sector and was marked as bad (that's cool). In this way, people were left with a slow floppy disk drive with little less disk space. The virus showed a message like:Welcome to the Dungeon (c) 1986 Basit & Amjad (pvt) Ltd. BRAIN COMPUTER SERVICES 730 NIZAB BLOCK ALLAMA IQBAL TOWN LAHORE-PAKISTAN PHONE:430791,443248,280530. Beware of this VIRUS.... Contact us for vaccination............ $#@%$@!! How did this mess end?Brain Virus infected a lot of machines around the globe. IBM took very serious action against the brothers and, eventually, they stopped distributing the virus with the medical software. Nowadays, they're running a company named Brain Telecommunication Limited providing Internet services at the same address as above. Want to read more about Brain Virus? You can read more about the virus here: Final WordsIf you want to support me, you can do the following things:
