4. Ethical Hacking with Kali Linux – Updates and GEDIT
In this chapter, we are going to install updates and upgrade our kali Linux install. We will also install Gedit. We will also learn some basic commands for installing, updating and upgrading packages in Linux.
What is Gedit?
Gedit is a graphical user interface text editor. We are going to use this editor in our course. GEDIT is simple and sweet text editor that I used to use.
Basic Command Line:
apt-get update: This command will update the list of packages that require an upgrade. This is an important command to run before upgrading the system.
apt-get upgrade: This command will upgrade all the packages that require an upgrade. This is the actual command that will start downloading and installing upgrades.
apt-get install <package_name> : Eg. apt-get install gedit: This command is used to install any package in Linux. Package_name should be replaced with the name of the package.
Sudo <command> : Eg. Sudo apt-get update: This command runs the command in super user access. It's like an administrator access which we have in windows machine. We can run any command with sudo access by just typing sudo in front of the command. Kali Linux is designed to be a single root user so we don't have to use the sudo command in Kali Linux.
