The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard ([PCI DSS](https://www.cybrary.it/course/pcidss/)) online assessment test measures candidates’ understanding of the standard and its compliance requirements. This assessment test, created by iMocha, is designed to assist employers with the pre-employment screening of potential employees as well as diagnosing skill gaps of existing team members.

What is the PCI DSS?

The PCI DSS is a framework of requirements that must be maintained by all organizations that process, transmit, or maintain credit card information to ensure the protection of debit and credit card transactions against data fraud and theft. The PCI Security Standards Council, an independent entity that was created by Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, and JCB, administers and manages the PCI DSS, but the individual payment brands enforce compliance.

PCI DSS compliance is considered to be the best method of safeguarding sensitive card and personal information, which helps organizations establish strong and trusting relationships with their customers.

Why Should Organizations Use PCI DSS Assessment Tests?

In addition to maintaining positive relationships and customer loyalty, organizations that process, transmit, or store credit and debit card information should utilize PCI DSS assessment testing for a number of reasons, including:

  • Avoiding the cost of noncompliance – Failing to comply with PCI DSS requirements can result in both financial and reputational consequences. Customers won’t want to do business with organizations that don’t keep their information safe and private.
  • Reducing the risk of data breaches – Data breaches are likely to have serious repercussions on an organization. Employing knowledgeable personnel can help mitigate this risk.
  • Avoiding higher costs – In the event of a data breach, organizations may be required to stop accepting card transactions or be required to pay higher charges to do so.
  • The PCI DSS assessment and Cybrary’s other screening tests help organizations identify candidates with the skills they are looking for, making hiring decisions faster, easier, and without bias.

Organizations can use assessment testing to help identify knowledge gaps or insufficiencies in their current staff as well. This will allow employers to provide additional training where it is needed.

What Does the PCI DSS Assessment Test Involve?

Our PCI DSS assessment evaluates the test-taker’s knowledge in maintaining compliance with the privacy standards set by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council. The test contains questions designed to demonstrate candidates’ familiarity with the 12 requirements for PCI compliance, experience with compliance and regulatory issues, and knowledge of OS security, encryption, key management, secure system development, tokenization, malware, anti-virus, and vulnerability analysis.

The PCI DSS assessment consists of ten questions that must be completed within 20 minutes. Questions may be multiple-choice, fill in the blank, multiple-answer, job-based simulations, true or false, audio, or video.
