So let's take a look at Windows Command line tools
00:10
if you're not familiar with command line tools or the command line.
00:15
It used to be called the DOS Prompt,
00:19
and technically, we don't use that term anymore because technically,
00:22
Windows no longer is DOS.
00:25
But it looks like a doss window, and it's familiar term to everybody. So I need the DOS prompt or I need the command line.
00:33
Either one in conversation means the same thing,
00:37
So one way to do it is to run. C and D
00:40
has an execute, a ble and the command line. I'll pop pop up, or if you want to do it from the gooey you confined under accessories, you confined the command
00:50
prompt,
00:52
uh, icon.
00:54
And that's a kind of a trick, by the way, if you find the command prompt icon what I've done with my systems in the past, so I copy them to the,
01:02
um,
01:03
bottom row of the screen
01:06
and then with a copy down there.
01:10
If I want to run something as administrator, I just run the command problems with a run as as administrator,
01:15
and that way, everything I do in the command line is actually done with administrative privileges, and I'm not prompted
01:22
to log on administrator as long as that window's open.
01:29
So let's take a look at that for a second.
01:33
So this is a command line screen. I'm gonna close that screen.
01:38
And if I type C M D
01:42
and they enter,
01:44
that's the fastest way for most people to get into it.
01:48
Alternatively,
01:49
you can come to all programs
01:53
accessories
01:56
and find the command prompt
01:59
hand. Am I right? Click that
02:01
this is where you would
02:04
run as administrator.
02:07
And that way, as long as that window's open, it has administrative privileges.
02:14
So if you look in the bottom of the screen to navigate the command line, we'll use these terms in just a minute.
02:20
But, uh, the slash
02:23
and question mark, after any known command, will display the options for that command. And it means you don't have to have everything memorized as long as you know what the base command string is. If you don't remember the syntax to type your entire command out,
02:38
then science question mark will give you
02:42
the rest of this intact you need.
02:44
It allows you to do a lot of things without having to have them all memorized.
02:47
The networking tools will look at first.
02:51
Ah Ping,
02:53
actually,
02:54
technically is a
02:58
acronym
02:59
for a packet. Internet groper
03:01
P i N G.
03:02
But it's it's just a tool somebody wrote
03:06
so that they could test and see if someone was at the other end of a connection
03:09
related, that is trace route
03:13
or trace Artie in the windows implementation of it
03:16
nest at
03:19
because you never statistics
03:22
and we'll look at I p config
03:24
in this look up
03:27
and it's work up tests your ability to resolve names to D. N S
03:30
and net and NBT stat will talk about.
