practices. If you're actually taking the exam practice like you play,
give your best guess and then move on.

What type of strategy and tactics do you need to employ for yourself Through these sample exams, you'll be ableto understand where you need to work and where you have strength so you can apply your strengths Best. Last point on this slide is to use positive self talk. You're never gonna be truly ready for certification exam.
I've talked to professionals who say, Well, I'll wait till I'm really ready to take the exam
then they never take it or they get panic because they have to take it because of some deadline. And they don't do as well, said it. Eight. Make that your goal. I'm just work towards it, knowing you're not gonna be 100% but maybe 95% is good enough. In other words, great can be the enemy of good
Before you go into the exam. Should be reading your certification programs, testing policies and methods. Read it very thoroughly. Read it twice. No, the number of questions that could be asked, the time allotted for taking the exam,
the type of test? Is it a traditional pen and paper, or is it a computer aided test?
If it's the latter, know how it'll work for your particular certification?
What types of questions will be asked? Are they multiple choice? Could there be multiple answers? Fill in the blank, truthful, false or essay.
When you schedule your test, make sure you have time to study. Make sure you actually schedule it so you have time to take it and you're not rushed or panic while doing it.
Also, familiarize yourself with look, feel and navigation of the computer based test.
Perhaps we can visit the testing center before the day of your test so you know how to get there and the layout
This way. You're fully prepared the day you're testing for your certification.
It's test day. I'll give you some more tips to prepare you for that day. When you're taking that certification exam,
it all starts with getting a good night's sleep.
Good night rest will help your brain feel relaxed and more open toe understanding the questions and the answers.
I also recommend eating a light snack
doesn't have to be a heavy meal. Actually, I don't recommend it just something so your stomach has enough food and your body has enough energy to get through the exam.
Review what you should take and what you should not be taken to. The exam
I should, is your identification driver's license or passport?
Some should not. Our cellphones leave them behind in your car or with a trusted person,
should also not brings any study guides or any test prep materials can leave those in your car.
I know where your test center is. Map it out, understand the route. You'll take parking there Well, you need to walk. To get to it, get to know the test center early.
Read all of the instructions and rules very carefully.
Twice. Don't rush through it.
Make sure there's not anything you're gonna missus faras what the test entails.
I know how much time you have per question.
This way you can pace yourself,
for example. It's a 100 question test and you have 90 minutes to take it.
Okay, that's about 50 seconds per question. She can actually time it out. I'll time it out with my watch to understand that average,
and sometimes those questions will take you 10 seconds. Sometimes they may take you two minutes because what you know to pace yourself
breathe and think positively to breathing brings oxygen to your brain, and your body makes it a lot more pleasant. Easier for you when you're walking through the test,
you're sitting in taking the exam. Now, coming up to with the questions. Let me give you some tips on reading through the questions.
Read them very carefully
Don't scammer skip. That's what I like to do. I tend to be in a rush, and I'm just trying to prove freed.
If you need to reword the question, how would you rephrase the question they're asking?
Look for hints within the question.
Focus on some key words. Maybe it's a key term from your study material or other words that might be leading you to the answer like not or sometimes always and never
adjectives like most likely least likely best.
You should also remove distracters.
Quite often, the questions will have maybe a whole sentence of a distracter. It has nothing to do with the answer.
Throw that out. Focus on what's important with the question.
Also understand. Is there a single right answer or can you list multiple answers have been tripped up on that one?
Let's practice on a sample question.
One of your top customers who doesn't understand technology called to your help desk to complain about your company's website, he said. It's been defaced by an international organization that doesn't agree with your corporate policies.
What type of threat actor typically does this?
Let's look through this question.
Are there some key words we can pull out? How would you rephrase it?
Can you come up with an answer in the top of your head.
We'll come back to this question in a moment.
Let me provide some tips on answers. First,
we're looking at multiple choice answers. Answer the question in your mind before reading any of the answers. If you're able to come up with the answer in your mind, and it could make it very quick and easy to find that right answer. In the multiple choice list,
read each answer. Sometimes there are two answers that look very similar. It could be similar words or similar concepts,
so don't assume by going to quickly read each answer,
eliminate the wrong answers. Are there some that you know were absolutely wrong? Most multiple choice exams has one question that you can throw out. It's just out of left field.
Get rid of that distracter where you can focus on the ones that you need to
then use the process of elimination.
What is the most appropriate answer? What is the best answer? Sometimes there's two answers that are both correct. Drives me crazy. Well, it could really be this or this, depending on the situation.
Think like the exam creator. It's really the best over all situations
if needed. Make an educated guess.
It's usually best to stick with your first choice.
Don't second guess yourself often that leads to poor decision making.
Let's practice again on that sample question
you see on this example I crossed out the first sentence except for one word. Why? It's all a distracter just there to throw us off. We're talking about a website. Even if you're not familiar with this concept doesn't make a difference. You'll understand the methodology.
Talking about a website website has been defaced. By WHO? An international organization.
What type of threat actor typically does this?
So it's a website to face. But international organization? We're looking for a typical threat actor. So best answer
Insider is not inter international organization, so d we can cross out.
Organized crime could be international, but they're usually out for money or espionage. They wouldn't be doing looking to deface websites. She can be thrown out.
Well, that's usually someone who's just kind of doing stuff for fun. It's usually not an international organization, so get rid of a
The answer is B in this case, hacktivists. He don't even have to know about cyber security you could probably come up with the answer just by having some good test taking techniques.
Here are some more test taking strategies. Looking at answers
look for similar words between the question and the answer. Sometimes the answer has the question right in it, where the question has the answer right in it. I've seen both ways.
Finding those synonyms between the two might just lead you to the right choice.
Occasionally the longest more specific answer
that will either be the correct one or totally out of left field. Incorrect.
So sometimes a long answer will be the right one or the wrong one. But you can tell pretty quickly.
Watch for negatives, negative wording and extreme wording. Like every time, all or not,
those often can be thrown out as well.
You can try the true false technique
for each answer. Answer in your mind. True or false? Is this the answer? True or false?
None of the above ISS seldom correct. So if you see none of the above and you're certain it's it,
How about all of the above? It could be correct.
Most likely it is if two of them are correct. So you see two of the answers, but you're not sure of the 3rd 3rd you're going, We'll wait. This could be wrong, but you're certain of two of them. And then there's all of the above. Select all of the above.
Okay, you've gotten into the test taking scenario. You're you're busy walking through it. You're getting tired and your mind is draws a blank. You're reading a question and you have no idea where it's coming from.
Take a time out. This is why pacing yourself is so important.
You have 30 seconds to breathe.
Relax. Allow your brain to think that maybe separate. Allow your subconscious brain to understand the question.
Often my subconscious brain will come to my rescue When my conscious brain is not working.
Envisioned success go through some positive thoughts. Think about Oh my gosh, that would be so awesome when I'm done. Go grab that drink. When I'm certified, everyone will be so proud.
Get some positive energy flowing.
Create your study space in your mind. Okay, So you're reading through a question. You need to know you've read it in your book. So go back to where you read it. I was sitting in my
in my studio in my office, and I read it on page 42.
Go to the place where the answers are very well, could come to you. It's actually a great memory technique overall, not just for test taking.
If you're not sure, don't sit there in waste 10 minutes on it. Sometimes it's best. Just do your best. Move on when you're done with the question. Don't dwell on it. My personal challenge. I'll be thinking about a question. Four questions back.
I'll be second guessing myself. No, let it go
that it go just like the saw.
Focus on the question at hand. You can't do anything about the questions you've already taken.
Breathe and relax through the panic attacks and you'll walk through it. These will help you as you're working through that certification exam.
In this video, I covered some basic test taking tips. There many others out there that you should be leveraging. I talked their sub general tips. What do you do before you begin? What do you do on the test day when you're taking the exam? Some test taking strategies with the questions and answers
