Hello and welcome back to ice. And the one interconnecting Cisco networking devices aren't one.
This episode 512 rounder access an interface configuration
trend there on a beer structure for this course. Unless we do what we just went over the lesson 5.1 overview and some pretty assessment questions. And this has certainly shown how to connect to the router,
some different cables that the writers use and a few other things.
So again, we're gonna look at the functionality of the routers we look at installing a router and the switch and router differences
First, what
side of the cable do you set? The clock rate command.
And I know we may have gone over this in the previous lesson. What? I always take a guess at it.
All right. It is the D. C. E. And remember the way that I always remember it is you have the d, c n and the D. T and D t e and
and the D. C. C means clock to me. That's how I remember it still do. I don't know why, but it works for me.
Ah, quick side note. I may go back and put in a quick how to build a home lab thing.
Um, but I did realize this because I just had got a new router your day and it came pre configured. So I had a bunch of, um,
someone else's usernames and passwords and everything else on there, so I couldn't actually log on. And I realize you guys might run into this issue, too, So we'll go over this later, and I believe module nine. Uh,
but if you set the if, when you're loading up the it's mainly goes to a user name password that you don't know when it's first loading the switcher, the router up with such, uh, hit pause break. There's a few other combinations you couldn't hit. But what do you want to go into is Rahman, and
you can change the configuration register to the 0 2142 which ignores envy Ram,
which were envy. Ram is the start of config. So basically boots into a
just an empty config. Um,
and there were, you know, Then you can just reload it, you know, really, the rotary boots that ignores the envy room so it doesn't have to pull that started configured to the running config.
So from there, if you want to, you can get a blank router config by just doing a copier on start
changing configuration. Register back to 2102 Would you give your boot?
and then that you will have a blank configuration from there. I just want to throw that in there because I ran that issue today. So
otherwise we'll get right into it.
So Cisco routers is gonna utilize that same you tp cabling switches as your computer as everything else for their fast Internet, their gig lines.
Um, that kind of thing. You can actually use it for the serial lines as well. Um,
but they only your lies. A few gold, there's less cables, allies.
but the Cisco I'm sure you've seen is the I S R or the integrated service's router.
This one, they'll have what capabilities some have. Ah, intrusion prevention systems built in.
They have routing. So you see that thesis E s U D s U cards, um, are built in his wit cards. A lot of times, you'll see that's where that yellow cable is plugged into is the C s U D s you card.
Um, and then, you know, they do. Sometimes if you get ah, more than small business, though, they do have switching built in his welcome like that on one unit style thing.
Um, I was gonna use that same roll over our council cable that the switches use. Um,
so you can actually access your router? That same way, you're gonna use that console cable
right into the consul port the same way.
So it's stolen. Accessing router. Um,
you know, you connect the what it does is it takes your local area network, your home network, and it will connect that to your Internet access. Or, as it's called in the old days, the gateway. It was the gateway between the Internet access and your local area network.
So most year, small office home office networks, they're gonna have those integrated devices like we talked about it. Instead of having, you know, a switch and a router in a wireless access point and a modem. And you know, all these different things. It's all gonna be one device,
because it's a lot easier set up for in a person. And if you're calling help desk and they don't have a clue. You're gonna say, OK, unplug this one device instead of trying to get him toe, reboot everything in order and do I was crazy stuff you're gonna say, Unplug one thing.
So it's simplistic is why we do use them on time. And like I said, it used that same consul cable that the switches use and most of base configure options of the same know you have your host name your domain name.
A lot of them are all the same. The same storage, you know, set up with, uh,
you know how everything boots up routers. A lot of times will have a compact flash cards, so it's like,
uh, pretty much people using out as our routers and people who do photography
pretty much. Everyone uses micro SD cards and SD cards and stuff like that. Nowadays, compact flash is like the old school thing. It's funny cause you see the giant card that's like 64 megabytes when
No, we have a micro SD that's a terrible right now and hiring that us and that's low. Ah, one thing you're gonna want to look at when you're looking at routers when you set up your cereal lines. Clock rate does not mean band with.
If you're setting your band with that is usually used for a,
um, like for O S P F or E I G R P. Routing protocols. It's a metric that gets brought into those. This doesn't actually alter the clock speed of the interface.
So few quick differences over the switches and routers I P addresses get assigned to interface is instead of the line interfaces,
Um, so the actually get assigned to f A 00 serial 010
Um, whereas in the
switch world, we you know, we added that interface that villain interface and edit I p address to that. In order to access it,
you'll see on a lot of meal having dogs or auxiliary pour. Those were originally designed for people you could plug in old phone line,
and you could have remote people remote into the device through
that auxiliary port. They would dial into the router. It was
kind of
you don't see him really used anymore, but that was what it was. Four.
Um, but unlike a switch, the transport and put none is set by default. So as his age, telling that all that's turned off by default. And also every interface is turned off by default
being being that it's in a shutdown state, whereas a switch you can plug into a wall socket and then plug in, You know, 30 devices and it will. It'll switch all your friends in between songs on the same land it was. You know, it'll work right off the bat without having to configure anything. A switch. You plug it in and everything's turned off. You have to
going in manually. No, do a no shutdown command.
So later, Two devices. They have the air of the show. Mac, address table switches have that. The routers have the show. I p route.
That's two. Huge difference is you don't have a show. I peer out later to switch. And you don't have the Mac address stable on the router.
So a few cables We have gone over these previously as well. We have the smarts, zero cable, the blue one there in the top middle as
we had to beat out 35. Officer. Right. Um, we have the serial t one pin out. So that yellow cable. He's seeing a picture there. That's the pin out that it uses
on the bottom there. And then there is just another picture of that T one C s U D s you little unstoppable card there.
And remember the
d c e and has to have the clock rate.
Ah, so we'll go ahead and just jump in the post assessment here. What command is a router? Have that a layer to switch does not
give it a few seconds. Hopefully you remember.
