Preventative Maintenance Tools (part 1) This module introduces you to best practices for computer preventive maintenance. This first lesson examines some of the tools and strategies for accomplishing that. You’ll learn about backup practices and why it’s critical to perform them on a regular basis, and the specific backup components each of the different Windows operating systems have. For example, you’ll learn that Windows XP use the NT Backup system, where its located, and how it can be configured which is different from Vista which uses the Backup and Restore Center and its various options. You’ll learn the benefits of location designations for the backup file and why it’s an important best practice NOT to store the backup file locally but to a location out and away from the original hard drive where the target data is located. You’ll also learn about creating an image backup, why you would want to do that, and which operating system have the capability and which requires a third-party software tool to perform an image backup function.
