Export/Import Restrictions

This lesson covers export/import restrictions. Regarding export restrictions, the WASSENAAR Agreement makes it illegal to export munitions to terrorist sponsored nations. The exporting of cryptographic software is allowed to non-government end users in other countries and exporting of strong encryption software to terrorist states is illegal. Regarding importing, in many countries, the import of cryptographic tools with strong encryption requires a copy of the private key to be provides to law enforcement. Computer crime across international and even state borders is difficult to punish to do local variations in the law regarding computer crime.
