Laptop Hardware: Memory & Optical Drives
Memory in older laptops varies widely, some ae even OEMs specific and were not standardized.
Now we have SODIMM and Micro DIMM which are becoming the standard. In older models they are always located underneath the laptop panel and may also be double layered.
With Optical drives, those are readers for CD and DVD devices, and now are more a standard that’s part of the laptop, than an option or expandable add-on device in the much older models.
Each model of laptop is different and the types of components included are based upon its purpose.
For example, you’ll learn that a Notebooks and a Netbooks have very different purposes. Netbooks are for basic web browsing typically not requiring much storage, whereas a notebooks purpose is to function as a portable computer where you perform browsing, data storage, data creation, analysis, and other production-oriented uses.
Therefore Netbooks have a small hard drive and they may or may not have an optical device at all.
