Impact Printer Maintenance

Our last type of maintenance to explore is impact.  Our laser printers role the image onto the page, inkjets spray the image onto the page, but impact printers actually hit a rotating components which has a ribbon between it and the paper and the image literally hits the paper to be created.

Since impact printers strike its components to create the image, it’s the components themselves that must be monitored for replacement.  For example, the print head, if that breaks or cracks; it must be allowed to cool off first before any replacement/repair is attempted.

Sensors and print output quality advise that the toner, ribbon should be replaced, as well as the quantity of paper or a paper jam.  Caution must be used when replacing paper so as not to damage the tractor feeds that feed the paper thru the device without tears or jamming.
