External Connection Devices Just like motherboards, external storage connection types on those motherboards vary endlessly from motherboard, expansion card, and computer type to another. There are many different ways in which external storage devices can connect to computers. Series and Printer ports, Ethernet connections, eSATA, Firewire, and USB or universal serial bus which is actually a connector on the end of the device.
