DIMM vs. SIMM This less both explains and demonstrates the different attributes of RAM by looking at DIMM and SIMM memory modules. SIMM means Single Inline Memory Module, DIMM stands for Dual Inline Memory Module.  What that means is the SIMM’s memory module are on only one side and act as a single group that can be accessed independently, whereas the DIMM has 2 groups of memory modules – one on each side and each side can be accessed as an independent group.
