Video Description

Configure EUI 64 IPv6 In our last lesson we diagrammed out how to configure an IPv6 address and calculated out what the address should be. Now we launch the fast Ethernet protocol to create an IPv6 address. You'll learn why IPv6 always creates a link local address automatically before you've created your EU IP address and why that link local IP address is needed.

00:04
Okay, so let's configure and you II p v six address on router one.
00:10
First, I'm going to check
00:13
my
00:14
Mac address on F 00 off rather one, which is right here,
00:20
and we should be familiar with this apology by now.
00:28
So as 00 of rather one has an address 00605 season zero Sierra one. The one I had on the board a few minutes ago.
00:38
I go into config moment for the router and enable I p v six routing
00:45
with the command i p v six Juni cast routing on the router.
00:51
Then I can go into the interface fastest in a 050 and I can say I p v six enable
01:02
this enables at p V six on the interface
01:06
and automatically creates
01:10
an I P V six link local address. Let's see what this link local address looks like. If I say do show i p v six interface grief,
01:22
it's the same command, but incentive. If I pee, I'm saying I p v six same command be used for I p v four.
01:29
You see this address? FDA zero Coghlan Coghlan 2605 c F f f ea 60 Sierra one.
01:37
We haven't created an e y address yet, but I p v six auto configures would we call link local addresses that always start with F E 80
01:49
Now, these addresses are used as next top I p addresses by layer three routing protocols like route information protocol E g R p and O S P. F.
02:01
Next,
02:04
let's create our I p v six you I address. So I believe our prefix was 2000.
02:12
So I p v six
02:15
address
02:16
and now I'm gonna assign it a prefix. 2002
02:21
colon zero colon zero colon 000 a
02:27
Coghlan Coghlan
02:29
Flash 64 Space question mark and see, It gives me that US 64 option. And if I say
02:37
you i 64
02:39
this inter financial auto assigned itself in you I 64 address by putting or inserting this Mac
02:50
address, I have zero size zero Mac address into this last 64 prefix.
02:57
Now let's look at our new show I p v six interface
03:04
brief
03:06
and we see that the router came up with exactly the answer we got when we did this manually on the board, which is 2002 Colin Colin. A cool in 260 Cool in five cff Colin F ea 60 call in Sierra one.
03:23
However, you don't have to have I p v six Auto configure I p addresses for you because, God News,
03:30
Who is going to remember this with the Mac address inserted into the eye P V six address? So let's get rid of it.
03:38
I generally don't like these.
03:42
That's a sign and an I p address. Manually, we picked one,
03:47
so
03:49
I simply said I p v six
03:52
address
03:53
2002.
03:55
Then I can simply say Coghlan Coghlan
04:00
one
04:01
slash
04:05
Let's make its last 64. Still,
04:08
this is rather one. So I said Colin, Colin one.
04:12
Let's go to Router to
04:14
AB 00 right here
04:15
and a sign of night BB six. Address
04:21
with
04:25
and say I P. V. Six
04:28
Address 2002
04:30
Coghlan. Coghlan too
04:34
Flash
04:35
64.
04:38
Let's assigned to Thought so. Basically, this address is actually I. P V six. Well, I will expand it out for out or three.
04:47
So let's go to Round three
04:49
as 00
04:55
and once again
04:58
I N c f zero slide. Zero i p v six
05:01
address 2002
05:04
Colin 0000 called 00000000 Cold and zeros here
05:12
0000 Colin 0000 Colon 0000 Let's see how many fields have one, too to be for
05:21
five. I want too many zeros here.
05:27
67
05:30
than colon 0003 slash 64.
05:34
So this is the prefects,
05:38
and this is the I. P. V six address host address or the load address palooka do show I P v six i nt brief. You see, it has been shortened to 2000 to Colin Colin. Three.
05:53
Let's do the same for route or four, and we can test this out a little bit.
06:02
Um
06:04
interferes Facet in a 00 i p v six address 2000 to Colin Colin Force last 64.
06:15
Now can we pin between Router 123 and four? Well, let's find out.
06:21
Ping
06:24
iptv *** 2000 to Cole and Cole, and one
06:29
it works. 2000 to Colin Colin to Rocks 2002 Calling Cole and three. It works 2002 Colon calling for it Works
06:39
What if I wanted to ping that
06:46
link? Local address on Router one from Router four through I P v six interface Brief This F E 80 address and every router created this for itself.
07:00
What if I'm paying this address? What happens now?
07:04
Ping i. P. V six
07:09
and I try and pin this address
07:12
Now it says Outward interface.
07:15
Now my output interface on fat on
07:17
router for is F 00
07:20
What happens if I type in at 00?
07:27
It says invalid interface, and I'm sitting here wondering what's going on. That's the correct interface.
07:32
Unfortunate thing. And I don't know why Cisco did this. You actually have to type in the whole interface name as in Fast
07:42
Eater Net
07:45
gino slash zero
07:47
and then it pings.
07:49
It's unfortunate that you have to type in the full interface i d. Once you do, it starts pinging
07:59
and rather for just to show you the I P V six interface,
08:07
the I P V six interface brief also created itself for itself a link local address as all routers, all devices will.
08:18
We're gonna break here for a second
08:22
and then continue without visas
